Got a Tip?

Plot Details And Opening Sequence Revealed For Gaspar Noe’s 3D Cannes Midnight Movie ‘Love’

Even if the movie turns out to be terrible, Gaspar Noe‘s “Love” will certainly be remembered for its marketing feats. The first promo sheet got naughty, and over the weekend the film’s producer unveiled a very, very, very NSFW poster. Indeed, Noe’s film has become the talk of the Cannes Film Festival without even a single frame being shown (no official stills have been released yet). But until then, a little more has been revealed about the film, including the name of the lead actor, some plot details and a long description of the film’s opening sequence.

Cineuropa reports that Karl Glusman has the lead part in the movie; he’ll also star in Roland Emmerich‘s gay rights drama “Stonewall” and Nicolas Winding Refn‘s L.A. horror “The Neon Demon.” In Noe’s film, Glusman plays Murphy, in what the trade magazine describes as a story about a boy and two girls that “explores the many facets of love beyond good and evil: genetic needs, surpassing oneself, altered states of consciousness, hard drugs, mental illness, power games, blinding lights, releases of sperm, fluids and tears.”

Okay, then. But it’s the description of the opening sequence which sounds like pure Noe, starting with a ringing telephone: Twenty-five-year-old Murphy wakes up surrounded by his young wife and his three-year-old child. He hears his answerphone. In the message, Electra’s mother asks him, sick with worry, if he has heard any news about her daughter, who went missing a long time ago. She fears that she has been involved in a serious accident. Over the course of a long, grey day, Murphy finds himself alone in his flat, reminiscing about his greatest love affair with Electra, which lasted two years: a passionate love that involved all sorts of promises, games and excesses…

So get ready for sperm, fluid, tears, games, passion and everything you’d expect from the button-pushing Gaspar Noe. Cannes kicks off on May 15th, so hopefully we’ll see a teaser for this film soon.
