Lily James Joins Edgar Wright’s ‘Baby Driver,’ ‘Simon Killer’ Director Antonio Campos Lines Up Cast For Next Film And More

CinderellaCinderella” has crossed the $500 million mark worldwide, and so Lily James is using that momentum to land herself a new gig. Edgar Wright has cast James opposite Ansel Elgort in “Baby Driver,” Wright’s follow-up to 2013’s “The World’s End.” Penned by Wright, the movie focuses on a burgeoning getaway driver (Elgort) who endangers himself and the life of his love interest (James) when he fails to complete a heist for a crime boss. Director Antonio Campos (“Simon Killer”) has a new film in the works titled “Christine,” and he’s bagged Rebecca Hall and Michael C. Hall in the lead roles. It’s a drama about a Florida newscaster (Rebecca Hall) who methodically plans her suicide to occur on camera. Michael C. Hall stars as a co-worker who develops a crush on the news anchor. The supporting cast includes Maria Dizzia (“Orange Is The New Black”), writer/actor Tracy Letts (“Homeland”) and J. Smith-Cameron (“Rectify”). Evidently the project has been quietly shooting for a few weeks. [The Wrap]

Mark Wahlberg’s found a new movie wife in Kate Hudson. She’ll play the spouse in Peter Berg’s “Deepwater Horizon,” an inspired-by-true-events picture about the titular oil rig that exploded in 2010 causing the biggest oil spill in U.S. waters ever. Summit Entertainment will release the picture September 2016. Kurt Russell and John Malkovich have also joined the project. [The Wrap]

William H. Macy’s latest directorial effort “The Layover” will include some ladies and some bros. The movie stars Alexandra Daddario and Kate Upton, as well as Rob Corddry, Kal Penn and Matt Barr. The movie follows two friends whose flight is redirected to St. Louis because of weather. While stuck in the city, the boys do their best to start macking. Actor Toby Stephens has become an object of affection for Michael Bay. Already the lead of Bay’s Starz series “Black Sails” Stephen’s now landed a role in the “Transformers” helmer’s upcoming Benghazi thriller “13 Hours.” The film already stars John Krasinski, James Badge Dale, Max Martini and Pablo Schreiber and is based on the book "Thirteen Hours: A Firsthand Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi." Rosamund Pike has joined David Oyelowo in "A United Kingdom." The film "tells the true story of Prince Seretse Khama of Botswana, who caused an international stir when he married Ruth Williams, a white woman from London in the 1940’s." There’s no director yet, but the hunt is on, as the plan is to have the film rolling in front of cameras by the end of the year. [Deadline]
