Even though it’s only been in theaters for two weekends, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is already the fourth highest grossing Marvel movie of all time at the domestic box office. And at nearly $319 million, it’s barely gotten started. (Case in point: three years ago, the first “The Avengers” installment brought in a whopping $623M domestic in the 22 weeks it played on screens.)
Fans, non-fans, and moviegoers of all ilk love it, and why wouldn’t they? The Avengers are pure popcorn gold. The franchise — as with most Marvel movies — is wildly entertaining, promises nearly nonstop big screen action, and at almost two and a half hours, more than enough bang for your buck. Plus, it’s got an incredible cast. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, and on and on and on. But, as all movie lovers know, it’s not just the people on screen who make a movie what it is. (And no, I don’t mean just adding Joss Whedon’s name to the mix.) Increasingly these days — and especially with explosive, action packed, extraterrestrial, god, and robot filled superhero flicks — scores of behind the scenes artists labor tirelessly to make Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters the rousing films they are.
