Tom Hardy doesn’t say much in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” but according to most rumors flying around, the actor had plenty to talk about when the cameras weren’t rolling. He reportedly clashed with co-star Charlize Theron — which both actors have played down, though it’s notable that Theron has already said she’s reluctant to do another movie — and now it seems he made things a bit difficult for director George Miller, too.
With the movie melting faces today at the Cannes Film Festival, Hardy used the press conference following the screening of the film to humbly apologize to his director. “For seven months, I think the most complicated or most frustrating thing was trying to know what George wanted me to do at any given minute so I could fully transmute his vision,” he said (via Indiewire).
“Because he’s orchestrating such a huge vehicle, literally, in so many departments, because all the vehicles are moving and the whole movie is just motion, I have to apologize to you [looking at Miller] because I got frustrated. There was no way that George could have explained what he could see in the sand when we were out there… I knew he was brilliant, but I didn’t quite know how brilliant.”
It’s perfect timing for the duo to bury the hatchet, with the movie expected to explode at the box office this weekend. And believe me, this is a movie that demands to be seen on as big a screen as possible, so buy your ticket, and cross your fingers that Miller, Hardy and even Theron have a few drinks, put whatever difficulties they had behind them, and make another. Check out the full press conference below, plus a new ‘Fury Road’ featurette.
hard to believe jagernauth is all over this one though when he basically shits on the action genre on a regular basis. maybe he finally pulled the criterion collection logo out of his ass and gave die hard or hard boiled a serious non-ironically-hiply-detached viewing.
she doesn\’t even say she\’s "reluctant to do another one" she basically says she wouldn\’t do it unless it\’s george miller doing it, which, no shit. But I guess making mountains out of molehills is what gets the pageviews
In a TV interview on Monday, Rose Huntington-Whitely said: "There was as much drama behind the cameras as there was in front of them." With co-stars going around making statements like that, it sure lends creedence to the rumors. They tripped themselves up at the premiere, too. On camera, Charlize said she was unaware that she broke Tom\’s nose, and then separately the reporter asks Tom about it, and he flat out states that Charlize broke his nose two different times during filming, and they showed footage of it. But she\’s totally unaware, which means they didn\’t even speak to each other between takes, took no meals together, etc. Must have been a real fun shoot (not).
Ha. I love it. Now that the film is out and is critically acclaimed Hardy and Theron need to kiss some ass for their diva ways.
