Got a Tip?

Jay Baruchel To Direct Hockey Comedy Sequel ‘Goon: Last Of The Enforcers’

Jay Baruchel GoonThere is a small, but devoted and vocal contingent, who believe the 2011 Canadian hockey flick, "Goon," is a modern sports comedy classic. And while I am not one of those people, there are enough of them that it has turned the talk of a followup into a reality.

Jay Baruchel will get on the ice to co-write (with Jesse Chabot), make his directorial feature debut, and star in "Goon: The Last Of The Enforcers." Seann William Scott will return to reprise his role as Doug Glatt, whose skills on the ice have less to do with puck-handling and goal scoring, than with using his fists. The new film will find Glatt back in action with the Halifax Highlanders when there’s a pro hockey lockout, presumably leading to more unhinged on-ice action. No word yet if anyone else from the previous movie — Liev Schreiber, Eugene Levy, Marc-Andre Grondin, Alison Pill — will return.

Production on the movie will begin in June, and you can probably expect this one to lace up and hit the ice on a screen near you sometime next year. [THR]
