It might seem odd for Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain to star in almost back-to-back sci-fi films that are kind of similar — Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” and Ridley Scott’s “The Martian” — but evidently the resemblances weren’t enough to scare off either actor, or the prospects of working with these directors and their great casts were too good to pass up.
Written by Drew Goddard (“Daredevil,” “The Cabin In The Woods”) as a project he was originally going to direct, “The Martian” centers on an astronaut (Damon) who has just become one of the first people to walk on Mars. But after a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking he’s dead, he finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive. Even if he can get word out, his supplies will be gone long before a rescue could arrive, but the astronaut isn’t ready to give up yet (see the “Interstellar” similarities?)

Meanwhile, a first look at Damon in the film has surfaced via Spanish site Entradanumerada.com (it’s reportedly a scan from Empire Magazine that just hit newstands). "Star Wars" fans will note the color scheme that doesn’t look entirely dissimilar to the rebel pilot outfits, but that’s probably just a coincidence or small homage.
Co-starring an all-star cast that includes Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, “Halt and Catch Fire” star Mackenzie Davis, Sean Bean, Donald Glover, and Naomi Scott, “The Martian” lands in theaters on November 25th. Check out the full size first look below. Update: the photos are from Empire who have released a few more.
I very much liked the movie "Martian". The actor Matt Damon played excellently. The plot of the movie carries away and holds you in tension up to the end. I often watch movies with this actor on the site I think you will be able to find on this site movies lovely to your heart.
An homage to the rebel pilots from Star Wars, really? Maybe it\’s because orange and white are the colors NASA uses.
Actually, this story is not to dissimilar from the 1964 movie "Robinson Caruso on Mars".
They are still giving Ridley Scott money to direct movies?
I\’D BE EXCITED, BUT THEN I REMEMEMBER PROMETHEUS AND THE REST OF HIS CAREER.
"Written by Drew Goddard … as a project he was originally going to direct"… Wow! You never even mentioned the original novel by Andy Weir. I guess that\’s how one can tell the difference between a blogger and a journalist, huh?
Seriously? No mention of the original author of the book? Not even a reminder that this movie is made based on a GREAT book?
Yeah, for those interested, this is based on ”The Martian”, by Andy Weir, self-published in 2011 as his first ever written book. You might want to read it before seeing the movie, as it is one of the most immersive books I ever read (and I read a lot of scifi). I\’m eagerly awaiting for the movie, but at the same time, I know it won\’t blow minds like the book does. I just hope it makes it justice.
It also might be an homage to the fact that NASA entry suits are orange. Maybe.
Really? Interstellar similarities? It is completely different, it has more in common with Gravity. Read the book

good book, not great. the last truly great science fiction novel was William Gibson\’s Neuromancer. should make a thrilling movie with Scott\’s visuals, more sci-fi than Prometheus, which was more science-fantasy.
Interesting to have an all star cast for a story that is so solitary. Here\’s hoping it\’s as good as the book or at least close.
It\’s a scan from the new issue of Empire Magazine.
It\’s from Empire magazine that was delivered to subscribers today
"The Martian" was a great book. I hope they do it justice and catch both the drama and the humour.
It looks like it comes from EMPIRE magazine
