Michael Bay And Leonardo DiCaprio Back New Movie From ‘Virunga’ Director Orlando Von Einsiedel

Michael Bay Leonardo DiCaprioWhile Michael Bay and Leonardo DiCaprio don’t seem like an obvious creative match, they share similar interests. The director is a passionate advocate for animal rights, while the actor is a vocal environmentalist, so perhaps it’s not a surprise they’ve taken a shine to director Orlando von Einsiedel. He’s the man behind the acclaimed, Oscar-nominated "Virunga" about the fight to save the world’s last mountain gorillas. Bay and DiCaprio are now helping the filmmaker make a new feature.

THR reveals the pair will produce, via their Bay Films and Appian Way shingles, an untitled movie about Jacques Boyer, with von Einsiedel to direct. Boyer was the first American cyclist to race the Tour De France and who then retired at the age of 32 from the sport after winning a slew of prizes. But hard times soon fell upon Boyer, who saw a business fall apart, and then spent a stint in jail after an affair with a teenager. But he found new purpose in Rwanda, where he took young boys who survived the genocide and trained them to be champion cyclists.

The project is still in early stages and doesn’t have a screenwriter yet, but one can see the obviously potential there.
