…and then there were three (and maybe a few others). Disney has been holding "secret" auditions and tests for the lead of the "young Han Solo" spinoff movie for its "Star Wars" franchise, and the list of contenders bandied about has featured names like Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen, Blake Jenner, Nick Robinson, Colton Haynes, Max Thieriot, Leo Howard, Tony Oller, Chandler Riggs, Hunter Parrish, Rami Malek, Landon Liboiron, Ed Westwick, Tom Felton and Joshua Sasse (phew!) but it appears that the studio has found their final three.

THR reports that Alden Ehrenreich ("Hail, Caesar!"), Taron Egerton ("Kingsman: The Secret Service") and Jack Reynor ("Transformers") are on the final shortlist for the Phil Lord and Chris Miller directed movie. The trade cautions there could be other names on the list, but these are the frontrunners angling to land the gig.
Of the trio, only Ehrenreich has zero franchise experience, but he showed he has charisma to spare, stealing scenes in the Coens‘ otherwise patchy "Hail, Caesar!" Egerton has proven to be a dynamic star already in ‘Kingsman’ (and it’ll be interesting to see if 20th Century Fox hangs onto him, with that franchise continuing to grow), while Reynor is already an accomplished actor, though was largely forgettable in Michael Bay‘s robot smashing pictures.

Taron Egerton all the way. I like Alden but not for this role.
Please pick Alden. No more fricking Brits and Irish people. An American should play Han Solo.
Taron Egerton
Alden or Jack are my top 2 choices
Omg Alden, but Jack Reynor wouldn\’t be bad either if you\’ve seen everything else he\’s been in not named Transformers!
Taron Egerton, how is this even a contest? srsly, @Chase? Mr. Potatoface would be a disaster. Keep him away.
Not Taron Egerton. Alden is a great actor but this seems like it wouldn\’t play to his strengths. That leaves Jack Reynor as my number 1, I guess. Ansel Elgort probably would\’ve been better suited than any of these three, though.
If you saw Hail Ceasar! You know Alden Ehrenreich is the right choice.
Alden
I always thought Ansel was the perfect choice. Sad he didn\’t make the cut.
It has to be Taron Egerton! He\’s just perfect for the role! I could live with Alden Ehrenreich, but Jack Reynor is pretty boring.
