Eyepatches, bloody knives, a white trash channeling Nicole Kidman and a "Sling Blade"-esque John Cusack….suddenly Lee Daniels' '60s set thriller "The Paperboy" is looking a lot more interesting, and with the Cannes Film Festival stamp of approval, not only will this be one of the starriest entries this year, it could be a left field surprise.
Following the new images that appeared over the weekend, a whole new batch of pics have landed online giving a great look at everyone in the cast, and our first peek at Cusack and David Oyelowo in the film. Based on the novel by Pete Dexter novel, the story follows respected journalist Ward James (Matthew McConaughey) and his brother Jack (Zac Efron), a college dropout, as they investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a death row inmate (Cusack) who was found guilty of killing a sheriff. Oyelowo features as Yardley, who teams with Ward James on the investigation while Scott Glenn stars as the James brothers' father and the newspaper's editor-in-chief. As for Kidman, she plays a woman who writes letters to death row inmates, and who first brings the case to the attention of the reporters.
We're certainly loving the sweat soaked look of the film thus far, and Kidman looks like she's going to be dropping a memorable turn no matter how this shakes out. The Cannes Film Festival runs from May 16-27. [Kinopoisk]
Nicole Kidman it's amazing, the best actress and I think many actresses never say anything to make a nude or things like why nicole?
You never go full retard
Dying @ Zac's face in the cover photo
Wait, Lee Daniels might actually make a good movie?
Wait is Cusack's character mentally disabled? Is it wrong to say Nicole Kidman looks hot when playing trashy characters. Damn this is starting to do promising.
Cusack's got some serious Nic Cage hair going on in these stills.
