Got a Tip?

Scalpers Hope You’ll Pay $150 For ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ Does This New TV Spot Make The Case?

nullAh, vermin-like opportunists. They're everywhere, and perhaps Bane, Selina Kyle and The League Of Shadows would appreciate the idea of scalpers feeding off the weak, the desperate, the impetuous, and the hopeless. Tickets for "The Dark Knight Rises" went on sale earlier this week, and of course, the first midnight screenings sold out immediately. But if you must, must, must see the very first public screenings of the film in IMAX on midnight July 19th, leading into July 20th, the date of release, evidently scalpers are selling them on eBay and Craigslist for an 80% mark-up, landing the price on average around $150.

Frankly, if you have that much disposable cash and you're that desperate to see the movie FIRST, I wish you would have told this writer a few weeks ago. I would have bought out as much as my credit card could afford. I mean, this is just horrible. Meanwhile, a new TV spot has arrived with glimpses of new footage, echoing some of the recent themes in the film: "Get me back in the game," Bruce Wayne wanting to leave retirement and put on the bat suit, "it'll liven up in a minute, trust me," Selina Kyle hinting at the calm before the storm that's about to hit Gotham, and much, much more.

Starring Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman and more, "The Dark Knight Rises" hits theaters July 20th. New TV Spot below. [ScreenCrush/BatmanNews]

  1. Wow. I'm shocked that a site such as this would link to a despicable site like "Batman-News." The proprietor of this site regularly runs spoilers and will post illicit and illegally-leaked pictures, music, and information. He's a scumbag, plain and simple.

  2. I'll never understand the draw of the midnight showing. By the time the movie gets out it will be 3:00 a.m. I'd be pretty tired by then and who wants to start dozing off during The Dark Knight Rises??? No thank you, I purchased my IMAX tickets for the 12:45 showing on Friday.

  3. I stood in line for like, 1 1/2 to 2 days back when the PS3 came out. I somehow managed to resell mine before people realized that they weren't all that hard to get–ended up getting $2500. I didn't feel bad for the guy who bought it–he was driving an $80k car and obviously just had a kid who desperately wanted it.

But movie tickets? Come on, dudes.
