The Toronto International Film Festival displays a selection of films from all over the world, and the latest batch of images released from genre-flavored fare in the Midnight Madness and Vanguard sections all revolve around films from the U.K. First up is "Pusher," a London-set remake of Nicolas Winding Refn's 1996 Danish-language debut. Already remade once (in India) and sequelized twice by the director, this take stars Richard Coyle ("Prince of Persia"), Zlatko Buric, who starred in the original, and model Agyness Deyn, is directed by Luis Prieto, and features a score by dance act Orbital. One of them is the biggest-ever U.K. independent film, 3D comic-book actioner "Dredd," which stars Karl Urban as beloved 2000AD supercop Judge Dredd, with Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey in support. The film premiered a few weeks back at Comic-Con and picked up mostly good notices, even if Playlist contributor Todd Gilchrist was a little cooler on the film than most.

At a very different end of the spectrum is "Sightseers," the dark comedy-horror from Ben Wheatley, the director of "Kill List" and "Down Terrace." The fast-rising filmmaker has teamed up with executive producer Edgar Wright and writers/performers Alice Lowe and Steve Oram for this tale of a couple on a caravanning holiday who take their murderous impulses out on anyone who slights them. We saw the film in Cannes and pretty much loved it, so this is one TIFF film that we can recommend wholeheartedly. "Dredd" will come to theaters on September 21st, only a few weeks after TIFF, while "Sightseers" doesn't yet have a U.S. release date but comes to the U.K. on November 30th, about six weeks after "Pusher," which lands in Britain on October 12th.
