Watch: Deleted Scene Shows A Goofier ‘In The Mood For Love’ That Wong Kar-Wai Totally Discarded & Reshot

nullThere are few films that capture that indescribable feeling of attraction, love and loss the way that "In the Mood for Love" does. But then again, there are few filmmakers like Wong Kar-Wai. A director who moves at his own unique pace and delivers films that try to capture specific and ephemeral tones and feelings, one might think he has an exact idea of what he wants when he gets behind the camera. But as you'll see below in this deleted scene from the movie, that's not really the case.

Criterion has shared a tiny slice of their behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of the film "@ In the Mood for Love" (from their DVD and Blu-ray release) that shows an entirely different kind of movie that was initially shot and then scrapped. Apparently, the first time around Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung joined Wong Kar-Wai for a movie that was much looser and funnier, and featured among other things a dance sequence, which you can see below. It really is the polar opposite of the beautiful movie that was eventually released, but it does indicate that the writer/director was perhaps still working out what he wanted to say — but importantly — how he wanted to say it. An interesting curio nontheless. Give it a spin.
