Got a Tip?

Watch: Grindhouse Style Teaser Trailer For Paul Schrader’s ‘The Canyons’ With Lindsay Lohan & James Deen

nullIt's been hard to know what to expect from Paul Schrader's "The Canyons," a collaboration with writer Bret Easton Ellis that features the unlikely leads Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen. And certainly, this first teaser trailer (well, the first one to feature actual footage) certainly isn't what we would have predicted from the movie.

Going for a grindhouse style vibe, this teaser doesn't offer much in the way of dialogue, but instead pushes the edgy nature of the material and provides the first glimpses of Lohan and Deen, with drugs and sex lurking not too far in the background. To bring you back up to speed, the digitally shot, micro-indie is a contemporary L.A. noir, exploring the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition, both personally and professionally, among a group of young people in their 20s and how one chance meeting connected to the past unravels all of their lives, resulting in deceit, paranoia and ultimately violence. The cast is mostly made of up-and-comers….and Gus Van Sant. Broken Social Scene member Brendan Canning will be providing the score (note: that's not his music in the trailer).

Give it a look below. No release date yet, but according to the film's official Facebook page, Lohan has alerady been shown a cut of the movie. Is a Sundance premiere around the corner? We shall see.

  1. This is a damn hip-warmachine … the story, the guy chosen for the music, the casting… the Oh-so-subversive casting! This feels so calculated it's hard to believable. I mean, ironically enough, add the grindhouse feel to this trailer and it almost looks like one of these fake trailers a la "She wolf of the SS".

  2. Coincidentally, I just read a fascinating article about James Deen that gives you an idea of the day to day work of a porn star. http://www.gq.com/entertainment/celebrities/201207/james-deen-porn-star-gq-june-2012-interview?currentPage=1

  3. This teaser is a direct knock-off of 1960s, Roger Corman-like releases on American International films, even the bongo-drums . Low-production values of the 1960s has now become stylized as "edgy."

  4. Man, I'm a fan of Bret Easton Ellis – the man and the writer – but what is it about everything on film that's related to him sucking balls? American Psycho was actually not bad, but still pretty tasteless. This looks just as lifeless to me, but it's just a a teaser… (And I threw down $100 for the kickstarter on this)
