As an eight-time Oscar nominee (but without any wins), two of composer Thomas Newman's nods have come from his work for director Sam Mendes: "American Beauty" and "Road To Perdition." In fact, he has scored all of the helmer's films date to except "Away We Go." So can the pair tune up another trip to the Oscars with "Skyfall"?
Well, you can judge for yourself with a six-minute preview of the score below. And well…it sounds like a 007 should. Appropriately propulsive and engaging, while drawing down for some of the more emotional or dramatic beats, it's not a reinvention of the wheel, so much as making sure it will be another piece of the high-performing franchise vehicle. So need to worry about 007 getting all John Williams on us.
Newman's score will be available for your ears on November 6th, a few days before the movie drops on the 9th. Listen below and check out a new TV spot as well. Tracklisting follows and we reckon its mildly spoilery. [Film Music Reporter/The Film Stage]
