Quentin Tarantino Wrote A Story About A Well-Endowed Black Man Called Jody The Grinder That He Couldn’t Fit Into ‘Death Proof’

Quentin Tarantino loves to write, that much is certain. And indeed, at one point "Django Unchained" was so long, Harvey Weinstein tossed out the idea of splitting it into two movies, "Kill Bill"-style. Of course, that didn't happen, but material was left on the cutting room floor, including a showdown between Django and Stephen that Jamie Foxx told us was one of his favorite moments of the movie. And indeed, Quentin's process often sees characters and plot threads change and mutate between the page and the big screen, and he's revealed that he once had a rather bonkers story for "Death Proof" (that he says is his worst movie) that never made it in.

Speaking with The Village Voice, Tarantino reveals he had written something revolving around Joey The Grinder, a character from black folklore with "the biggest dick." The story goes that Joey was caught in bed with the master's wife and was hung, and then….things got even more interesting. "He met the devil, fucked the devil, and the devil sent him back to Earth, with a curse to walk the Earth for eternity, fucking white women," Tarantino laughed.

But as always, Tarantino leftovers find a way of still being used. Describing him as a Paul Bunyan- or Bill Pecos-type character, a mythological figure and "uber-masculine black male figure of folklore," some of those qualities wound up in Django. So there you go. We'll have to think about how nuts a Joey The Grinder movie might've been, but Django seems to at least have some of his swagger.

"Django Unchained" hits theaters on Christmas Day, and while an extended version might be on the way, Taraninto reveals that had he put all the violence he had originally intended, we wouldn't have seen the movie until 2013. "I can say this: For instance, if I wanted to go more explicit with the movie — it's a really violent movie, all right? But if I wanted to go more violent with it, if I wanted to go further and make it more explicit and make sequences even more disturbing than they already are?
