Got a Tip?

Mia Wasikowska Says Shia LaBeouf’s Stories About His Scary, Drunken, Method Acting In ‘Lawless’ Are “All True”

nullThat sound you hear? It's the price of Shia Lebeouf's production cast insurance slowly nudging upwards, as after his acid-dropping avenue for "The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman" led him to a better awareness of his character, his method antics while filming John Hillcoat's “Lawless” have been revealed as slightly more intense by his female co-star.

As her performances in “The Kids Are All Right” and especially the upcoming Park Chan-Wook thriller “Stoker” display, actress Mia Wasikowska is a pretty fearless performer in all facets. However, when it came to her part in “Lawless” — playing the love interest of LaBeouf's young moonshine maker — she was a bit more skittish, more from working with LaBeouf than the material.

“She was calling her attorney, like, 'Get me the fuck out of here.'” LaBeouf told the NY Daily News last year, adding that he “didn't drink off set for no reason, and that the moonshine binge was to get “that drunk bloat” that he needed.

“Moonshine is different than liquor. Moonshine is closer to heroin,” the actor added, explaining why perhaps his drunkeness was likely both unbearable and terrifying to be around to the point where the actress nearly bailed on the movie. “Mia was ready to walk away from the movie. I was really pretty aggressive about it, and not in any kind of weird, strange way, but I don’t think she had ever experienced anything like that.”

Wasikowska had not commented on the matter until now when, asked by Entertainmentwise during the press rounds for “Stoker” about LaBeouf's behavior, she replied, “It was all true, absolutely, yep.”

Exactly the extent of LaBeouf's behavior on Hillcoat's set — alongside the likes of Guy Pearce, Jason Clarke and Tom Hardy — will and probably should remain under Wasikowska's classily mum response, but a solid guess is that the actor might surpass it with Lars von Trier in his “Nymphomaniac” two-parter. 1. Watching the movie right now. Every time I get into the film and the characters Le Boef appears and jolts me to realizing it's all acting and fake. My God, how did he get a role alongside real actors like Oldman and Hardy? He destroys the film!

  2. Didn't Tom Hardy come close to beating his ass for some of his on set "methods"? He needs it. But then again there is that TMZ video o him getting his ass beat down on the street. Priceless.

  3. of course it's true, and it was just the church scene. Hillcoat and himself made this clear back in the promo tour. What are you trying to say? He's a dbag cuz Mia said "it was true"? IT'S JUST ONE SCENE THAT NEEDED HIM TO BE DRUNK.

  4. I kinda Lawless since it features many of the actors playing themselves… i.e. Tom Hardy and Jason Clarke being badasses, and Shia trying but failing to be a badass.

  5. I wouldn't say it's a gossip story. It's more of a commentary on Shia LaBeouf attempting to bypass his limited acting ability by trying to be extreme and 'method'. Instead of acting drunk for a role, he will get violently drunk. Instead of acting like he is on drugs, he will take them. Instead of simulating sex he will have it – you can blame that one on Lars Von Trier but still…. There's such a thing as a daring actor, but being daring doesn't make you an actor.
