Just because we know when the “Veronica Mars” movie is released doesn’t mean that’s the end for everyone’s favorite private investigator. That’s right, Rob Thomas’ cult TV show may have a future beyond the long-awaited Kickstarter-funded film.
USA Today reports (via Indiewire) that CW—aka the network that cancelled the show—has worked out a deal with Thomas to bring the Neptune universe to the web in the form of a spinoff web series for the network’s CW Seed site. Right now details are sketchy, it could be anywhere between six to eight episodes lasting between five and ten minutes apiece.
Who would this series follow? Well, apparently Thomas was cagey with the network in the meetings leading up to the decision with CW head honcho Mark Pedowitz saying of the show creator, “He talked a little bit but it wasn’t locked in; he talked about potential people who could be involved, but he didn’t commit to anybody.”
At any rate, the plan now is to wait for the movie to come out first and deal with the web series after all. In the meantime, the “Veronica Mars” movie will hit a select movie theater near you on March 14th.
