Got a Tip?

Watch: First Trailer For Musical ‘Annie’ Starring Quvenzhané Wallis, Jamie Foxx & Cameron Diaz

Annie

What happens when Jay-Z and Will Smith get together to do something? Whatever the hell they want, and they decided to use their producing powers to bring orphan “Annie” back to the big screen. The first trailer is here to show you that a lot has changed since the 1982 original.

Beasts Of The Southern Wild” star Quvenzhané Wallis takes the lead role, Jamie Foxx plays the rich Benjamin Stacks (ha), Cameron Diaz is the mean Miss Hannigan, with Rose Byrne and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje rounding things out. And leading the charge behind the camera is “Easy A” director Will Gluck in his biggest, most ambitious gig yet. Here’s the official synopsis:

Academy Award® nominee Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) stars as Annie, a young, happy foster kid who’s also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014.  Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they’d be back for her someday, it’s been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz).  But everything’s about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) – advised by his brilliant VP, Grace (Rose Byrne) and his shrewd and scheming campaign advisor, Guy (Bobby Cannavale) – makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in.  Stacks believes he’s her guardian angel, but Annie’s self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it’s the other way around.

So, is it a hard knock life for this movie or will the sun come out tomorrow? Sorry about that, you know we had to. “Annie” opens on Christmas Day. Watch below. Update 4/14: Here’s the international version of the trailer plus a few new pics.

  1. In all honesty though, the one thing I have to hand this movie is it doesn't include a child star scream your chords out or trying to be something she isn't. The movie provides a good role model for kids… on the other hand, part of me is a traditionalist and I just don't see the need for it. Be interesting to see…. and, personal opinion, Cameron Diaz is a hot mess.

  2. I see nothing egregious about this.. Updating a film like this isn't as criminal as an old golden era tv show, like say 'the honeymooners' that someone had mentioned below, it's a musical.. It seems likes it'll be fun to those open to it, thought provoking? Earth shattering? Of course not, I'm shocked to read all the vitriol in this comment section. Have I grown soft for Quevenzhane? This film could be cookie cutter, generic and soulless.. But I am slow to assume so

  3. I was out the minute I heard Diazs off beat screech – she reminds me of Betty Davis in Whatever Happened To Baby Jane. How she's still working is anybody guess.

  4. honestly does hollywood have to remake every movie or change historic characters to be black now? 1. how bout make some original badass movies with black actors and 2. how bout hispanic, indian, asian, native american indian characters/actors. I guess that isn't the type of "Diversity" hollywood wants.

  5. Okay – what I find "interesting" and a little disturbing is that this is a trailer geared towards young children, and on my page, there is pictures of a lady ummmm….unmentionabling? promoting a movie by the name of "Nymph()Maniac" ….. um ……..

  6. Lots of vitriol… Honestly, this looks sweet. Obv not meant for the cynical 20-somethings that populate the playlist comments. Corny as can be and not exactly consummately put together, but I expect it'll play decently with families

  7. Wow. It's like they did everything they possibly could to butcher the original musical. Probably couldn't set the bar low enough to be able to enjoy it.
