While the trailer looks like more of the same — pretty to look at navel gazing? — we can’t help but look forward to Sofia Coppola’s upcoming father/daughter reconnected drama, “Somewhere.”
IMDB has released about eight new photos from the film which you can see here (and some below the jump). The film focuses on a hard-living Hollywood actor (Stephen Dorff) who re-examines his life after his 11-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning) surprises him with a visit.
While the movie ostensibly does feature appearances and cameos by Michelle Monaghan, Benicio del Toro, Laura Ramsey, Robert Schwartzman, Chris Pontius and Caitlin Keats, from what we’ve seen in the trailer, the picture looks to be a two-person show, perhaps not unlike “Lost In Translation” (Indie-rock band Rooney’s appearance in the film is supposed to be hyper-minimal at best). Scheduled for a December 22 release, the picture will debut at the Venice Film Festival, but so far, has not been announced at any North American film festivals. We assume (and hope) that TIFF will eventually make an announcement, and if not, perhaps there will be an appearance in Telluride.
