Got a Tip?

Pete Doherty & Charlotte Gainsbourg To Star In ‘The Confession Of A Child Of The Century’

The NME is gonna love this. Libertines rocker, Kate Moss ex-lover, fashion model, drug addict and a total mess Pete Doherty is set to make his acting debut opposite Charlotte Gainsbourg in an adaptation of the 1836 work “The Confession of a Child of the Century” by Alfred de Musset.

The autobiographical tale by Musset tells the story of his affair with George Sand (the pseudonym of Baroness Amandine Aurore Lucile Dupin). Doherty will take the the lead of Octavian, who narrates the story, while Gainsbourg will play Brigitte, a young widow with whom he also has a dalliance. The film will be directed by Sylvie Verheyde, a name not so well known on this side of the pond, but who directed the bittersweet coming-of-age tale “Stella” (see our review) which made festival rounds last year.

Filming on the project begins on December 27th with shooting to take place in Paris, the Rhone-Alps and Germany. No word yet on if the story will retain its period setting, but the thought of Doherty in old timey duds make us giddy. We’re excited for this project for probably all the wrong reasons but mostly, we’re amazed that an insurance company out there is gambling on Doherty keeping it together long enough to get through a feature film shoot. No word yet if either of the pair will pen some tunes for the film, but that would be pretty rad. [AlloCine]

  1. Although causing nightmares when you\’re in the lycée the book is really beautiful! But Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel already made \”this\” movie, and it was nothing special… I doubt this one will be.
