Got a Tip?

‘Man Of Steel’ Villainess To Be Faora?

As you might recall, a couple of months ago a whole batch of names — including Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike — were tipped as candidates for a mysterious female lead role that was not Lois Lane in Zack Snyder‘s “Man Of Steel.” Well, word quickly dropped off — and while guesses ranged from Ursa to Cat Grant for the mysterious part, Team Nolan seems to have closed the lid on that early leak. Or have they?

Latino Review, who seem to have a few well placed spies around town, are reporting that Faora will be the female villainess in the film, presumably teaming up with Michael Shannon‘s General Zod in taking on Superman. According to the site, the character is described in the script as Zod’s “right hand bitch” and not only that, the film will feature appearances from Jor-El (confirming that Daniel Day-Lewis was being sought as rumored last month) as well as his wife Lara.

As you might recall, Ursa, who appeared in the Richard DonnerSuperman” movies was actually based on Faora from the comics so it’s not a stretch to suggest that in Snyder’s film they’ll be going right back to the source. As far as rumors go, this seems pretty plausible. The final tidbit is that Krypton will feature in the story — which chatter around the web suggets will be a “Batman Begins“-esque origin tale — but it won’t be crystal planet but more likely resemble the “Star Wars” world of Coruscant. Whether or not it turns out like a Lucas looking or world or not, at any rate, Snyder is likely re-imagining Krypton which again, is hardly a shocker.

We’ll wait to see how this plays out and LR suggest that another Sunday afternoon casting announcement could be forthcoming this weekend forcing us to stand by our computers. “Man Of Steel” ramps up for production later this year and will hit theaters in December 2012.

  1. Re: Smallville, he has been Superman for two years or more. The secret is that he is becoming Clark Kent. It\’s obvious to anyone who knows the comic book history, but I\’m not one of those fanboys who think many people do. In truth, comic books are sort of an obscure hobby. Unlike most fanboys I\’m well aware of the numbers and it is sort of amazing the entire industry isn\’t dead. At least it is a more respectable hobby than it was a generation ago. And I get to enjoy this brief shining time in the sun, where so many of these comic book properties are getting adapted. I know that is going to cease in the not too distant future, and can already see the kid\’s fare, animation, and fairy tales on the horizon, as the \”Next Big Thing\”.

  2. Faora was awesome in the 1970s comics you reference above.

@Dr. Sam Beckett, Smallville hasn\’t extensively chronicled Superman’s origins at all, in fact if he put on a Captain America suit or became the Green Goblin in the final episode of that terrible series, it wouldn\’t seem out of place.

  3. Latino Review is the same brain dead site that STARTED the Ursa rumor, which your article hilariously fails to mention. That they are backtracking now, isn\’t a shocker.

  4. DDL is not going to cameo as Superman\’s father. I mean, that would be really cool and all, but what are the chances of that? Snyder could use Jon Hamm again or Clive Owen might work.

  5. a Eurasian please, either Asian mixed or Indian mixed. A new face please. Someone that has the quality of an alien. Not one of these tabloid fodder women. Please.

  6. People didn’t complain about Joker in TDK because we’d already seen Penguin, Catwoman, Two Face, The Riddler, Mr Freeze, Bane, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Ra’s Al Ghul and Zassz since the last time the clown prince was used.

Out of 5 Superman movies all we have gotten (and will continue to get with the Man of Steel) is Lex and Zod. And we’ll be seeing Zod again in what is meant to be a fresh start. Even in the new Spider-Man we’re getting to see a villain we haven’t seen before. If Non and Ursula appear as well it will be truly deflating.

Saying they HAD to use Zod because the other villains are not as well known to the general public is silly. Outside of Luthor and the Batman bad guys that were featured in the 1960s Adam West series, the general public has no knowledge of comic book bad guys. Still, that didn’t stop Ra’s Al Ghul, Sandman, Scarecrow, Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, Iron Monger, Magneto, Mystique, Deathstrike, Red Skull, etc. from being used in movies.

Superman is probably THE most widely known and venerable superhero on the planet and the best villains they can build a story around are these two??? Superman and the franchise in general are better than that.

Also, maybe a mention of Smallville’s Zod too? Someone could at least have mentioned Callum Blue’s excellent performance as Zod. Considering it was the biggest exposure of the character yet with 20 hours of television compared to Terence Stamp in a two hour movie.

  7. Smallville has extensively chronicled Superman’s origins. I think overall the filmmaker has to give us new villains and new stories in this new Superman film series. They should have utilised the villains that weren’t included in the previous films. Lex Luthor and General Zod should have been left out of the movies for a while.
I’m wasn’t going to say anything else but I’m not sure I can anymore. People seem to get upset. I hate everything about this movie, I hate the title. And please, no one say it worked with TDK not putting Batman in the title. This is totally different. TDK was a second film. This isn’t. It seems like they don’t want the name Superman in the title because they think it comes with a certain stigma.
All good actors. All miscast.
And Zod?!?! Really? Relaunching a franchise with a tired villain. Great.

  8. As General Zod will be in Man of Steel, they have to include Non, Ursa, Faora, Quex-Ul, Nam-Ek and Aethyr-Ka.

Leighton Meester, Jessica Szohr or Evan Rachel Wood will probably play Ursa or Faora.
