One of the highlights of this year’s Sundance Film Festival was Cindy Meehl‘s “Buck,” a documentary about real life horse whisperer Buck Brannaman whose equine experience has made him practically a legend. The film took home the Sundance Festival Audience Award, and when we caught up with it at SXSW, it definitely won us over. With the film now set to hit theaters this Friday, June 17th we’re happy to give one lucky reader the chance to win a poster signed by Buck Brannaman himself as well as a copy of “Faraway Horses,” his official biography.
“Your horse is a mirror to your soul, and sometimes you may not like what you see. Sometimes, you will.” So says Buck Brannaman, a true American cowboy and sage on horseback who travels the country for nine grueling months a year helping horses with people problems.
“Buck,” follows Brannaman from his abusive childhood to his phenomenally successful approach to horses. A real-life “horse-whisperer”, he eschews the violence of his upbringing and teaches people to communicate with their horses through leadership and sensitivity, not punishment. Buck possesses near magical abilities as he dramatically transforms horses – and people – with his understanding, compassion and respect. In this film, the animal-human relationship becomes a metaphor for facing the daily challenges of life. A truly American story about an unsung hero, “Buck” is about an ordinary man who has made an extraordinary life despite tremendous odds.
For a chance to win, email us the name of the film that Buck Brannaman served as a technical advisor on. Please include your full name and mailing address. Good luck!
Update: Contest is closed, the winner will be contacted by email. Thanks!
Contest is open to U.S. residents only.
How do I find out Buck\’s schedule of events..is he coming to the Reno or Carson City area at all this year? I would love to go! Thanks again..sorry for the second posting.. I need help with my mustang, Breeze!
What an amazing man! I would love to have Buck work with my Mustang, Breeze…she needs him! I am sure he would teach me a lot of things about her, that\’s for sure! I want to be able to enjoy her, instead of dealing with her continuous stubborn streaks. How do I find out when the movie will be playing in my area, which is in South Lake Tahoe, CA or even Carson City, Nevada? Anxious to see the movie.
Can\’t wait to see the film.I\’ve worked with Tom and worked with Ray and look forward to meeting Buck and other like-minded people.

Wow. I tried to be able to email you. But during the daytime big pages like this dont load well on a phone. I an surprised cv some of the comments about emailing you and being threatened with not want to win . . . Maybe i wouldn want to win a contest where people are not nice to others. Yet another attribute of buck. . . Patience and understanding. Try some people. It will make your everyday life so much better. I promise 🙂
I know a horse that really needs Mr. Brannaman.
Would love to him work with this horse so my friend can ride!
I am excited to see this movie. It is showing in my local
area, Rhinebeck – Upstate Films – on July 1. I am going with two friends.
I had the best time of my life at the Buck Clinic I attended a few years ago in Maine. My horse and I were on different pages for three days. The fourth day, after I asked for help, everything changed. My whole life turned around after that day. I thank Buck for helping my horse to help me be a wiser human for myself and for everyone else, especially my horse.

The Horse Whisperer was the film on which he was advisor. Robert Redford, actually knowing horses, was very believable.
