Got a Tip?

Watch: Trailer For Tarsem’s ‘Mirror Mirror’ Promises A Future Camp Classic

nullSo, yes, there are two Snow White movies coming next year but rest assured weary moviegoer, they could not be more different. It was just a few days ago that we saw the first, surprisingly impressive trailer for "Snow White And The Huntsman" a darker, grittier take on the fairy tale and now we have the competition, "Mirror Mirror" from "Immortals" and "The Cell" director Tarsem. And yeah, it's…different.

Though the production has never been shy in pointing out that this one is skewing to a younger audience, the first look at this swings so broadly with slapstick humor, a bizarre "Scarface" reference and some eye-rolling puns we don't know what to make of this thing. Visually, this has to be one of Tarsem's weakest efforts, with the plastic looking sets, watercolor backgrounds and (minimal) effects certainly pointing to a movie that is rushing to meet a spring release date. The story, written by Melissa Wallack and Jason Keller, will strike a balance between adventure and comedy with Snow White teaming up with a pack of seven dwarfs to take on her evil stepmother who has destroyed the kingdom and killed her father, but obviously, the tone weighs more heavily on the "laughs" than any thrills.

This kind of looks awful, but maybe this is a future fairy tale "Showgirls" that will prompt drinking games and post-release appreciation by high falutin' cinephiles trying to justify a trainwreck with academic language. So which movie will be the fairest of them all next year? Not this one. Watch below.

  1. I think Mirror Mirror looks hilarious! I love Julia Roberts and thought Lily Collins was great in The Blind Side. Can't wait to see it in theaters!

  2. Strange that Snow White and The Huntsman looks more like Tarsem than this does. I can imagine Tarsem shrieking when he watched the Trailer to huntsman, "Fuck, that what I should have done, be me."

  3. Wow ! Julia Roberts ' film career is truly in the toilet. She should have done " The Proposal " and " The Blind Side " ( even though they are not great films ) when she was offered those roles before Sandra Bullock took her leftovers . The main problem with Julia, she has a very limited acting range , and I don't buy her as evil or devilish. Now, Charlize Theron , after " Monster " , I will buy her as evil or any personality trait.

  4. Having now seen the trailer elsewhere, I feel very embarrassed and sorry for Hammer. When I first heard he got the gig, I was pleased. It seemed his career was moving upward in the right direction. But this looks painfully embarrassing to him and a knock down several steps backward in his career. OUCH. Any tiny bit of awards buzz he might have got from J Edgar just died. I don't see the critics handing him trophies when these trailers and ads are playing at the same time. That sucks.

  5. Oh Tarsem, why must you squander what potential you have? Immortals is forgiven as a paycheck movie that still looked distinctive and exciting, but what's the purpose of this one, and why produce something so flat? Yeah, The Fall is looking like a one off success now, go back to material you're personally attached to.

  6. looks very adorable, of course it's different than K.Stewart one, but I actually like this one better with all the beautiful visual and cheerful mood. Snow White has always been one of my favorite disney cartoons, I am taking my niece to see this cute one 🙂

  7. Video "No longer available".

The other Snow White trailer was unexpectedly awesome. It instantly moved from my Meh category to MUST SEE. Having skipped the whole Twilight thing, it will be my first KStew movie.

  8. Tarsem is certainly going back to his roots here… the beginning song/dance sequence sounds oddly Indian and a cheap impression of a Bollywood film. An odd choice to embrace your culture… it's one of the most American fairytales… jeez louise
