For a movie that has been flying pretty much completely under the radar, the filmmakers behind the Luc Besson produced sci-fi thriller "Lockout" have put together a pretty odd, yet definitely compelling, first look at the film. An international trailer has arrived for the film and it consists mostly of Guy Pearce getting punched in the face.
Before we get to that though, let's recap what this is all about because it's a doozy, even by Besson standards. Originally shopped as a high-concept 3D adventure called "Section Eight," the script, penned by Besson and co-directors James Mather and Stephen St. Leger, finds Pearce starring as a wrongly-accused convict who must clear his name by undergoing a suicide mission to rescue the President's daughter (Maggie Grace). Oh, she just happens to be trapped in a futuristic space prison that is currently in the midst of a riot. Uh…
That's the kind of plot that will either be a total popcorn delight or the worst thing ever, but we do have hope. Pearce absolutely kills it in this trailer as the hero who is never short of a quip (and he seems to be loving this left turn lead role), even if it means his face gets mashed into a pulp. We do get a hint of the larger sci-fi portions of the story, but unfortuantely, those things are disappointingly less exciting. I don't know if the movie as a whole will be that great, but using that interrogation scene in the trailer and putting the words up every time his head goes offscreen was brilliant. That's the way to make your trailer exciting. Good work, whoever did that.
