Well, the decision has been made and despite meeting with a handful of young character actor types like Ben Foster, Aaron Paul and Paul Dano, Bruce Willis and Fox have opted to go the hardbody route, selecting "Spartacus: Blood & Sand" star Jai Courtney to play John McClane's son in "A Good Day To Die Hard."
According to Deadline, it came down to Courtney and Willis' "The Expendables 2" co-star Liam Hemsworth, with the muscles of the former presumably winning out. The actor has been on the rise of late, booking a role in the Tom Cruise thriller "One Shot" and apparently in Stuart Beattie's forthcoming "I, Frankenstein." This new movie will take John McClane to Russia where he gets introduced to his equally hard-assed son and together they have to blah blah blah democracy blah blah blah stuff explodes. Let's just hope they get a great villain…
Anyway, "Max Payne" helmer John Moore will get things rolling this spring for a Valentine's Day release next February, coming one week after "One Shot" lands in theaters as well. There's gonna be a whole lotta Jai in 2013.
I will never put this kind've thinking past Hollywood: Since this is an odd-numbered Die Hard film, it should mean the return of Gruber. I put $10 down on the villain being THE SON OF HANS GRUBER.
This whole casting process has baffled me. Each of the approximately 100 stories of some "young" actor having to pass on the role, due to scheduling conflicts, or just who were up for the role, included pictures of some balding 40 year old looking dudes. Maybe they were all actually 14, but they all looked near middle age. At least this dude looks in the ballpark of "young", which is a pleasant surprise at this point.
Fox ignores ancient Chinese proverb: 'Only John McTiernan make good Die Hard movie'.
