Evidently the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award red carpet is now the premium location for breaking news, or at least Katy Perry thinks so, as she's chosen to unveil the title and release date of her first 3-D feature film at the event.
Perry spoke to E! News correspondent Kelly Osbourne, who presumably elbowed out nearby Nick News child reporters to get the scoop, and revealed that “Katy Perry: Part of Me” will be released this year on July 4th weekend. “Go and see it and be a firework,” she added without cringing. As expected, the film will be a concert-documentary showing Perry's quotidian life on and off-stage, giving fans a behind the scenes look at the life of a pop star.
Adding a touch of whimsical ridiculousness to the story, the reality-TV producer duo Magical Elves (Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz) will direct the film, having already produced the Justin Bieber 3D extravaganza “Never Say Never,” as well as the massive television successes “Project Runway” and “Top Chef.” Also on-board are exec-producer Craig Brewer, growing more amazingly wonky with every new project, and producer Brian Grazer, growing scarier.
“Never Say Never” was a major success for all involved, taking the domestic record for a concert film with $73 million, and with Perry's widespread fanbase they are obviously looking for an equal if not better result. I must admit that these 3D concert films work well in almost every case. I absolutely loved Never Say Never and Glee. I felt the format fit them perfectly.
