Bruce Willis Thinks Terrible ‘Die Hard: Year One’ Concept Is A “Very Good Idea”

Die HardAs you probably already know, Fox is squeezing whatever it can out of the "Die Hard" franchise, with plans for a prequel, "Die Hard: Year One," with Len Wiseman involved. Yes, the guy behind "Live Free Or Die Hard," the shoddy "Total Recall" remake, and the mastermind of the "Underworld" franchise. The idea is that the proposed movie will follow young, ’70s era John McClane as we learn how he got so die hard-esque — a story that doesn’t need to be told, and betrays the everyman roots of the character — with Bruce Willis popping up in present day sequences for some reason, probably to cash a paycheck. And shocker, Willis thinks the concept has merit.

"It’s a very good idea, a really tricky idea, and I’m very happy about it. It’s a really cool idea, because it’s the origin story. It’s gonna happen at the beginning of this. We’re going to bounce back and forth," he told ET.

Okay, cool Bruce, but you know who doesn’t need an origin story? John McClane. But I guess we’re gonna get it anyway, even though nobody asked for it.

  1. Totally agree – the whole point of "Die Hard" was an everyman cop that did something extraordinary to try and protect his wife. The only other one that came close to pulling it off was Die Hard with a Vengence – ever DH2 was too much "Supercop". An origin story is so terrible an Idea as I can\’t imagine
