Mia Wasikowska has signed on to star in John Curran’s (“The Painted Veil”) new indie “Tracks.” The film will tell the true story of a young woman named Robyn Davidson who traveled 1678 miles through the Australian desert in 1987. It’s an Australian production and will be based on Davidson’s memoirs of the same name, and has already secured distribution down under and in the U.K. (through Momentum Pictures). [Variety]
Hilary Swank will star alongside Brenda Blethyn in the HBO TV movie “Mary and Martha.” The names attached behind the camera are pretty impressive too, with “Salt” director Phillip Noyce set to helm the Richard Curtis (“Love Actually”) penned script. The story will follow two women who emerge from traumatic family tragedy to form a unique bond while fighting for the eradication of malaria. Sounds like pretty heavy stuff, but yet again HBO seems to have lined up the talent to match. [Variety]
Talk about a casting downgrade. Anton Yelchin has left Naomi Foner’s “Very Good Girls” (which will also star Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen) and has been replaced by some chap called Boyd Holbrook. So the “Star Trek” star has been replaced by some guy from “The Big C.” We’re probably being a little unfair to Holbrook who has also appeared in “Milk” and will next pop up in “The Host” before joining Foner’s flick, which also boasts Peter Sarsgaard and Demi Moore amongst its cast. We'll see if he's got the goods. [Deadline]
Ambyr Childers. Who is she? And why does she spell her name like that? Well apparently she’s a regular on “All My Children” (and we know lots of our readers are massive fans of that show), and she’ll also soon be seen in two heavy-hitters – “The Master” and “Gangster Squad.” But the news here is that she’s signed on to star in the remake of the Mexican cannibal horror flick “We Are What We Are” alongside Wyatt Russell, Bill Sage and Julia Garner. With those credits to her name, she could be one to watch. [Deadline]
And finally, Rupert Grint (aka Ron Weasley) will try and catch up with Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe in his attempt to forge a notable post-Potter career. Grint has signed onto “CGBG” alongside Alan Rickman, and “The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman” with Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood. The question is, as fun as Grint was in Potter, can he actually act? Neither are lead roles, and neither are particularly big films, which makes you wonder whether this will be as good as it gets for poor Ron. [Variety]
And finally, Joe Cunningham (aka Big Rupert Grint Hater) will try and catch up with other great writers like Edward Davis (and almost all other writers here) in his attempt to forge a notable career on Indiewire. The question is, can he actually write??!? Neither his articles nor writing style are particularly acceptable, only merely mediocre at best, and neither shows intellect as he's evidently too lazy to do any homework/research on both the articles and the actors he is so-called "writing" about, which makes you wonder whether this will be as good as it gets for sloppy joe c. Dear Indiewire, how come you're still making this clown write for you? There are so many qualified writers out there who don't have to resort to bias, discrimination and insult to be able to "write" a decent article. There.. how does that feel mr. joe "prejudiced" cunningham? :p
"same league as My Week With Marily" is hardly an argument as Ms. Watson was barely in that film and her acting there was not a highlight at all (what? she was on screen maybe 5 minutes total). I think its premature to really judge the trio's careers when really, they are only now starting to find footing outside of HP world. I mean, Watson has been mostly in supporting roles and hardly has worked outside of the HP series. And Radcliffe was mainly praised for his theater work (not acting roles post Potter). Judging on HP alone, Rupert did more with less on the HP series than Emma, who, if you watch carefully, did a LOT of eye-brow acting and even Daniel, who often overacted (though he improved with each movie). Independently of what they are each doing now and/or in the future, I like all three actors and hope they are each successful in their own right as they transition into adult roles. And I am happy to hear that each continue to act and get roles. And Rupert's two new film seem promising. So even if the author declares Grint has chosen "terrible projects" (which I disagree on); I do hope he, and the remaining of the trio find success and that they each exceed their true potential.
"Can he actually act?". are you serious ? I doubt if you have ever watched any of the HP films to say such silly things. I wonder if you write this article just to post anything about Rupert's new films than write something decent about his career.

I think a lot of you may be confusing quantity with quality re Rupert Grint. I personally do think Grint can act (never said he couldn't, read carefully next time), but like Radcliffe A LOT of other people dispute that. Unfortunately, I think he's always chosen terrible projects outside of Potter (Wild Target, Thunderpants and Driving Lessons are all awful – and Rob Sheehan totally outshines him in Cherrybomb) and that's why I think his career hasn't progressed as much as the others.
And seriously, an Eddie the Eagle biopic and a voice part on Postman Pat…those are hardly in the same league as My Week With Marilyn, The Woman in Black or a Sofia Coppola movie, are they?
As for Boyd, no, I've never seen him act – and wasn't suggesting he can't. It's a downgrade in terms of 'a name' to have attached to the movie, that's all. I'm sure he's a fine actor.
Geez, and there was me thinking the most contentious thing I'd written was calling Phillip Noyce 'impressive'.

I read the article before looking at its author, and it was pretty easy to tell it was not a regular. Cheap nark was substituted for insight, and 15 seconds of research could have answered his unnecessary rhetorical questions. "Why does she spell her name like that?" Brilliant. A simple search on IMDB would have shown the incompetent author of this article that this is not just "as good as it gets" A simple look at these films would show you that if anything acting wise he has the most to offer.
I agree about the comments on Rupert Grint. While Radcliffe and Watson have done some post-Potter roles, Grint actually took on roles before Potter was even over. Perhaps you should check out the, I don't know 5 or so films he did before it finished? Seriously, I am not sure why there is so much insistence by the media in making him seem like the least important of the 3. If anything he is the one most willing to take risks and has been for a while now.
To be honest, Boyd Holbrook fits the role of a street artist who two girls fall for/fight over more than Anton would. Don't get me wrong, Anton is a great actor, but he's kind of odd looking. On a purely superficial level, I think Boyd is more suited for that character in Very Good Girls.
Actually, Robyn Davidson's journey was in 1977, not 1987.
Echoing what Manuela says. Try watching Boyd Holbrook in something before you label him as a downgrade. He was wonderful in Higher Ground and The Big C, and has received positive reviews for everything he's been in. Try watching the short film he was in, Moving Takahashi (http://vimeo.com/36731248). You lose complete credibility when you jump to conclusions about someone that you've never watched act before.
Have you ever watched Boyd Holbrook in anything? I have. He's talented and has been on the rise in the latest year. Several critics have already recognized his talent in their reviews of the work he's done so far (between, he's also done Higher Ground directed and with Vera Farmiga). Maybe before calling this a downgrade you should inform yourself and actually watch something to get a honest opinion? Also, he's not just "some chap". He's a model with over a decade of work with the most important labels and featured on the major magazines all around the world. It's not acting but he's not just "some chap". He's well known by tons of people who have been following his work for years. Maybe you should tune in on History Channel next Monday and see him acting beside Kevin Costner and other great actors in the mini series Hatfields&McCoy, for which he has already gotten positive advance reviews. At least then you'll be able to say you actually base your opinion on facts and not on the fact you don't know who he is…
I also was taken aback by the comments on Rupert Grint. The comment "try and catch up with Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe" seemed harsh and even unfounded. Isn't Grint the one from the trio who has the most movies outside of HP? Yeah, which means he has no need to 'catch up' with anyone. Also, the "can he actually act" comment was just unnecessary. Time and time again directors and/or actors from that series named Grint the most natural actor of the trio, and even the most likely to act and have longevity doing so. So, why the criticism? It's not necessary, particularly because indiewire is a great source of information for me. However, this kind of comments (including the one's for Boyd Holbrook) are just off-putting.
It's too bad Anton Yeltsin is going to be replaced in Very Good Girls. I was looking forward to seeing this.

Rupert did the most Movies so far and I don't know about Daniel, but Rupert and Emma are very good with Indie Movies. Bling Ring is not a big Movie either and his Role in CBGB sounds like the second biggest Role (imo). None of them want's to do a big Movie like HP so soon again and it's terrible to think just because there is not a Leading Role or big Movie, the Success won't be there. In what World are we living where just leading Roles and big Movies means Success?
