Yes, we realize all these films couldn't be more different, but they are images nonetheless from some upcoming movies and there's gotta be at least one you're curious about…
And our bet is that it's "How I Live Now," the latest feature effort from Kevin Macdonald. While Saoirse Ronan was rumored for Darren Aronofsky's "Noah," it's likely there was a bit of conflict with "How I Live Now," which is now going in front of cameras. An adaptation of Meg Rosoff's award-winning 2004 young adult novel (the author posted this image to her blog), Ronan will play Daisy, a New Yorker staying with English cousins when World War III breaks out. As the country becomes occupied, she falls for her cousin, Edmond, and has to protect her younger cousin Piper from the invading troops.
Sounds like a great piece of material to be working with. We like Ronan, and after knocking out a couple of documentaries — "Life In A Day" and "Marley" — we're eager to see what Macdonald has in store for a story that will certainly allow him to flex some creative muscle. Indeed, as he told us earlier this year, Ronan will be the only major name in the cast: "…it's quite a dark, little film. It was designed, financially, to be with no name actors at all. [Ronan] so wanted to do it and I met her, she was so fantastic, and so right in age. Everybody else in this will be unknown, never having acted before. It's all kids. Two or three adult scenes, but all the main characters are kids."
Next up is Kevin James' latest comedy, "Here Comes the Boom." In the film, the everyman comedian plays an earnest high school teacher who endeavors to save the extracurricular program at his school, which is getting axed in the face of budget cuts, by turning to the most sensible option available: mixed martial arts. The result is a bit of inspiration, perspiration and lots of gags at the expense of James' physicality. Happy Madison regulars Salma Hayek and Henry Winkler are among the supporting cast and the trailer tells you all you need to know about this one that opens on October 12th. [Kinopoisk]
Finally, while we're probably way too old than the target market for "Fun Size," it looks like kids of a certain age will at least get a decent movie headed their way. Starring Victoria Justice and Jane Levy, the movie follows the crazy-stuff-happening-on-one-night template in what looks like a riff on "Adventures in Babysitting," to tell the story of Wren, who gets stuck babysitting her little brother on Halloween, the same evening when the hottest guy in school is throwing a party. But things really get out of hand when Wren loses her little brother and sets out to find him. Yeah, it's derivative, but if done light and right, it could be decent popcorn fun. The film opens on October 26th. [Kinopoisk]
Glad she's not in Noah. That film might sink!
Yeah, but, she looks kind of spooky. Is it intentional?.
she was Sussie Salmon in Lovely Bones wasn't she?
Love this girl. What an amazing actress!
Those comments from MacDonald are old. Since then he's cast the other three kids and whilst none of them are house hold names, they all have experience. One has a BAFTA,albeit for a voice role, one only has 2 previous credits, but one's for Studio Ghibli, and the other's a lead role alongside Naomi Watts, and the final one has been in Boys Are Back, Defiance, Peter Pan, Private Peaceful, so definately has experience. None are unknowns, just "little-knowns".
Saoirse Ronan never looks bad.
