Got a Tip?

Kristen Stewart To Star In Scott Cooper’s ‘Lie Down In Darkness’; Rupert Sanders Still Attached To ‘Huntsman’ Sequel

nullWhile entertainment pundit types continue to debate about what the fallout of Kristen Stewart's dalliance with "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders will be and whether or not her public apology was the right PR move, the actress is already moving on, lining up a role in a period drama that has been brewing for a while now.

Vulture reports that Stewart has taken the lead in "Crazy Heart" director Scott Cooper's "Lie Down In Darkness." The project was one of many Cooper was attached to in the wake of his country singer drama, and back in 2010 it was said that Jennifer Lawrence was eager to take the lead. But now that she's busy with "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" for the foreseeable future, the casting of Stewart is expected to give the long-developing project the kickstart it needs (though it will need to wait until Cooper is done with the thriller "Out of the Furance" he shot this spring with Christian Bale).

Based on the book by William Styron, the story follows the Loftis family — Milton and Helen and their daughters, Peyton and Maudie — and is told through flashbacks on the day of Peyton’s funeral. Stewart will take that role, one that finds her constantly compared to her crippled sister Maudie, at odds with her mother and the object of her father's inappropriate desires. Fun! But this one has the full support of the author's estate behind it, with Styron's daughter producing and the family personally selecting Cooper to direct.

And while there's no word on when 'Darkness' will roll, Stewart also has a "Snow White and the Huntsman" sequel on her plate. Back in June, Universal decided to start moving fast on a followup to the fairy tale film, with David Koepp writing the script and Rupert Sanders directing. And you might think given the press around Stewart and Sanders, the studio might want him off the project, but alas that doesn't seem to be the case. A Universal source tells Vulture “nothing has changed and we are still looking at sequel options that would include Rupert directing” and the site suggests that Koepp is actively working on it, suggesting the studio is sticking to the plan.

So lots ahead for Stewart, "scandal" aside, including the gritty thriller "Cali" shooting this summer, and Walter Salles' "On the Road" hitting theaters in the fall (which she's quite good in, even if the movie itself is disapointing). Time generally smooths out these kinds of tabloid/dirty laundry things (stay strong Fred Willard!), and we suspect Stewart's reps realize this, so just moving on is probably the smart play at this point. And when it's with a promising project like "Lie Down In Darkness," even better.

  1. I hope Kristen Stewart will be Peyton Lofti. Despite all your inappropriate comments about her persona, Kristen Stewart always takes the original story of a book very serious and creates a real person in the story. She always manages to become this girl she portrays and make all of us follow her without bullying the story or the other actors off ( nothing is more annoying than watching an actor knowing about delivering an Oscar Performance just now… Saying "hi" to JL). I also think the way she looks is just perfect for the part where Jenny Lawrence is to much of a bombshell for Peyton. And yes, people come and see her movies, which is also good for the book. People in Europe havn't really read it yet and it is a wonderfull one! So, good luck to the Lie Down in Darkness Team to get Kristen Stewart! I can't wait to see the film!!!

  2. kristen is a competent and talented actress and have charisma that generates great interest ….. she deserves the best characters available, as all great actress deserve !

  3. Kristen is the best choice for this character, I'm anxious for everything to go right!! Kristen is great actress and is an amazing movie ….. GO KRISTEN!!

  4. @Megan..I'm not sure how reliable Vulture is…and the fact that they dragged Jennifer Lawrence into this over a comment that Lawrence made during an interview (TWO YEARS AGO!)…it was unnecessary but very strategic; Stewart's PR team (as well as Stewart) are desperate and trying very hard to change a headline. Stewart's crack PR team figures the best way to change the topic of Kristen Stewart is a cheating wench to hey look how serious an actress Stewart is…she beat one of the most acclaimed, popular and very well liked actresses Jennifer Lawrence out of a role!…the gossip rags ran with it (and to some degree so did so called serious sites like Indie Wire, apparently) but guess what?…no one buys it. Everyone knows that Jennifer Lawrence acts circles around Stewart that Stewart didn't beat Jennifer Lawrence out of anything (Lawrence was unavailable plain and simple). It's PR spin used to create a new perception about a mediocre actress with an unpleasant personality.

  5. Considering the movie is in it's early stages this should be taken with a grain of salt. Stewart may be being considered for a role along with a half dozen other young actresses. My guess is that Stewart's PR people leaked this to change the headline as it were. And considering that Lawrence is busy for the foreseeable future, I don't see that she was beat out for anything. But I do agree that Lawrence will win an Oscar before Stewart, if Stewart is ever nominated.

  6. The production source tells Gossip Cop, “While it’s exciting to see all the interest the project is generating, the film is still in the pre-production process, and no offers to cast have been made as of yet.” UPDATE: A source close to the project cautions that the development is at an early stage. "While its exciting to see all the interest the project is generating, the film is still in the pre-production process and no offers to cast have been made as of yet," says the source. <~ Hollywood Reporter

  7. Stewart's publicity people worked overtime with the press on this one (LOL!)…Jennifer Lawrence is Stewart's main competition so, they are running articles like "Stewart beats out Lawrence for coveted role!". The truth is, Jennifer Lawrence is busy with THG, and X-Men so, actually, Stewart didn't beat ANYONE out…it's that Jennifer Lawrence wasn't available(in fact, did Jennifer Lawrence even read for this part?). Anyway, my guess is, regardless of Stewart getting this role, Jennifer Lawrence will still win an Oscar well before Stewart is even nominated for an Oscar…if that even ever happens.

  8. Robert Pattinson has been cheating on Kristen Stewart since the start of their relationship. He hooked up with Megan Fox AFTER the Twilight premiere in Tokyo when he first got together with Kristen. He was sleeping with Nikki Reed at the start of New Moon filming and Ashley Greene all throughout. He hooked up with that Erika Dutra chick in Cannes that year and Camilla Belle in NYC when she went to visit him there during Remember Me filming. There were rumors of him and Emilie de Ravin having and on-set fling that same summer during filming. He was cheating with Ashley Greene again during Eclipse filming that fall while Kristen was on set. There were the rumors of him leaving Leighton Meester’s apartment in NYC early the next year. He cheated with some burlesque dancer Caroline Jones during Bel Ami filming in London causing him to be late for Eclipse reshoots and also his co-star Natalia Tena who he’d already had a history with before too.

He cheated with Lindsay Lohan during Water for Elephants filming in LA that summer at Las Palmas and was photographed poolside with bartender Nancee Bingenheimer from Saddleranch crawling all over this lap poolside at a hotel that July after Kristen had already left for Montreal to being On the Road filming. There were rumors that he was going to co ke parties in Malibu and hooking up with sk anks like Teresa Palmer all that summer too. He was supposedly hooking up with Maggie Grace during Breaking Dawn filming while they were back in Vancouver spotted in her hotel while Kristen was back in LA. There was the Russian model Ana Colja who was interviewed saying how she’d been ‘close’ with Rob since attending the Oscars with him years back and they still saw each other all the time, hinting at a sexual relationship between the two.

He was said to have been hooking up with his director David Cronenberg’s youngest daughter Caitlin during Cosmopolis filming that summer, hitting lots of late night hot spots and parties, spreading their DNA all over Toronto together. He was hooking up with LA bar sk anks like that Shea Marie chick who tweeted she shared “Jameson and Gingers” with him at Jimmy Fallon’s Emmy after-party and went back to Rob’s house to hang out following. There were all the bars he was hitting in LA closing them down at 3-4am every night while Kristen was busy in London filming Snow White and the Huntsman, girls tweeting about sharing drinks and cigarettes with him on the patio and flirting with him. He only visited Kristen one time during filming and not again until the very end after they finished their international promo tour for Breaking Dawn 1.

There were the Sarah Roemer hook up rumors that she went home with him from Soho House after they’d been partying with friends all night there and at La Poubelle. There were the Katy Perry texting stories that he’d been trying to console and hook up with her after her break up with Russel Brand–something that Kristen completely covered for him for I might add. There were the Lindsay Lohan cheating rumors AGAIN after that (didn’t believe those were true though-Linsday is too gross now even for bottom feeders like Pattinson). He gave an interview saying he frequented the KittyKat Club in Berlin when he was in town-a known fetish club where people openly engage in lewd acts and group sex.

Some of this sh it is going to come to light and it’s going to bite Rob in the azz if he dumps Kristen for this thing with her director. This is not going to go away and it’s going to get worse for him before it gets better. If he forgives he and takes her back (at least publicly) he might be able to avoid the backlash. Otherwise they’re going to start coming out of the woodwork against him and it’s going to be Tiger Woods all over again. She’s the one who got caught, but he’s been doing it for a long long LONG time before this. While none of these rumors of him hooking up with other woman has been 100% proven WITH PICTURES (because there have been multiple sightings by fans and others of him with these and other women), he’s only gotten a free pass on all this so far because Kristen has always stuck by him through it all and looked the other way despite the constant cheating talk about him.

This is not going to go away if he dumps her. He’s going to reap a huge backlash so he’d better think wisely before condeming her for something that he’s done since the beginning of their ‘relationship.’ She’s not the only guilty party here. If he wants to keep this all under wraps and out of the mainstream media (as in not just in the comments section on gossip sites), then he’d better be careful. Kristen was stupid with how she handled her affair. Will Rob be smarter than she was? We shall see.
