News has come in about release plans for a pair of septugenaraian-related capers, so get those damn kids off your lawns and check it out below.
First up, CBS Films — the shingle that makes movies your grandmother loves — has staked out December 20, 2013 for the Jon Turteltaub-helmed comedy, “Last Vegas.” The film, scripted by Dan Fogelman (“Crazy Stupid Love”), stars Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline as “four old friends who decide to throw a Las Vegas bachelor party for the only one of them who has remained single.” As much as we’re disappointed in De Niro’s recent output — we’re not that enthused by Turteltaub either — we have to admit that the cast is solid and should be able to at least coast on sheer charisma. Nothing else is scheduled for release that the day but the family-targeted 3D CG/live-action “Walking With Dinosaurs.” We haven’t really heard anything since it was announced two years ago, but it boasts a script by “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World” and “Happy Feet” writer John Collee with nature doc vets Neil Nightingale and Pierre De Lespinois co-directing, so we’ll see how that goes. Also targeting the elderly crowd is Summit Entertainment's action dramedy “Stand Up Guys,” which will now open early next year on January 11, 2013 “after an awards-qualifying run in December.” The film follows the Academy Award-winning trio of Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin as “retired gangsters who reunite for one epic night.” The film is scripted by playwright Noah Haidle and directed by fellow Academy Award winner (as a producer for the 2009 doc “The Cove”) Fisher Stevens. As we get deeper into awards season we should be getting a trailer and hearing more about the film, so stay tuned. Could this be a late-breaking Oscar surprise? (Probably not, but stranger things have happened…) You can also check out a first-look image from the film above. [Deadline]
is this at all related to his version of Rififi that seems to have ceased?
