Got a Tip?

Remake Of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Memento’ In The Works

The movie that put Christopher Nolan on the map, and introduced his penchant for narrative-bending storytelling, “Memento” seems like the kind of film that is truly inimitable. But as such things go these days in Hollywood, a remake will be attempted.

So, why is this happening? A press release reveals that AMBI Pictures picked up the library of Exclusive Media Group, and among the titles (which also includes “Cruel Intentions” (which is getting a TV series), “Donnie Darko,” “Rush,” and “Sliding Doors“) is “Memento,” so one presumes that AMBI have to start figuring out how to recoup on the investment. Thus, we have arrived at remake. And while acknowledging Nolan’s movie is a “masterpiece,” AMBI execs Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi are gonna do it anyway.

“ ‘Memento’ is a masterpiece that leaves audiences guessing not just throughout the film, but long after as well, which is a testament to its daring approach,” they said in a statement. “We intend to stay true to Christopher Nolan’s vision and deliver a memorable movie that is every bit as edgy, iconic and award-worthy as the original. It’s a big responsibility to deliver something that lives up to the mastery of the original, but we are extremely excited and motivated to bring this puzzle back to life and back into the minds of moviegoers.”

Well, good luck to whoever attempts to step into Nolan’s shoes. Share your feelings in the comments section below or via Post-It note.

  1. I try to hold onto a small shred of positivity when a remake is announced (mostly of the variety where the films involved were made decades beyond when the likes of Memento was released) but I can\’t do it for this. This is just sad and a prime example of how desperate and creatively bankrupt Hollywood is at this current stage.

  2. Ok, I know Blockbuster closed. But there are still ways to watch movies that came out in the past. We don\’t have to re-film them… This isn\’t theater. We can just watch the original again.

  3. I was born the same year Memento was released. I\’m a modern filmgoer. If AMBI Pictures think I haven\’t seen the original film and I\’d rather see a big budget version with modern technology and bigger stars, well, they\’re DEAD WRONG. This is a f*cking crime towards Mr. Nolans legacy. Actually, I\’m starting to boycott AMBI Pictures right now. Does anyone here know if there\’s a petition against the remake? Thanks.

  4. How much more (unnecessary) proof do we need to see that Hollywood is without ideas and creativity? They must now suck-out the life and beauty of previous films and creators, because these folks don\’t have great stories of their own.

  5. WHY?? Is the younger generation so into\”new\” that a masterpiece older than 10 years needs to be remade? You never strike gold twice. It is bad enough they won\’t watch B&W movies. So many fantastic films are out of their reach because they can\’t handle B&W. I agree with all previous comments, maybe it is time for Hollywood to shut down and let the indie producers take over. They don\’t give us reheated leftovers.
