You may have forgotten, but Sam Raimi's "Oz The Great And Powerful" has been a long time coming. It actually started production way back in July 2011, meaning it will be just under two years before it hits theaters next spring. But it looks like that time and attention to detail have certainly paid off because if anything, the 3D- and effects-heavy movie looks pretty damn great. The murky, digitally undercooked world of Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland" looks nearly amateur by comparison.
But of course, razzle dazzle won't be enough on its own, and the success or failure of the picture will be with the actors and story itself. And while we're not quite sold, we're cautiously optimistic. With James Franco in the lead, we're never quite sure if he's having a laugh or not, but he holds his own well as Oscar Diggs, a magician transported to Oz, who is mistaken as the next King of Emerald City, but steps into the adventure anyway for the bounty of gold at the end of the yellow brick road. On the way, he'll battle two evil witches — Evanaora (Rachel Weisz) and Theodora (Mila Kunis) — while being assisted by Glinda (Michelle Williams — and yeah, they all look pretty luminous).
But it's the visuals that really stand out here, bright, beautifully conceived and feeling every inch like something that demands to be seen on a big screen. Are we looking at the first big blockbuster of 2013? We'll find out on March 1st. Official synopsis followed by the new trailer.

James & Mila will nail their roles. James was outstanding in Spring Breakers & rightly so deserves an Oscar nod for that role. Not sure if the Oscars has the balls to think outside the box but pretty confident in his acting abilities from what I've seen so far. Some people, might not like the man but he can indeed act. Simply put, this will make money and everyone will bring their game on.
Pretty good trailer but i have to agree with the rest. While Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams look perfectly cast, both James Franco and Mila Kunis are not. In fact, it looks like they are not even in the same planet acting wise that Weisz and Williams are in the trailer.
Its looks good. Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams are always a huge plus in any movie but I'm not feeling James Franco and Mila Kunis, who I think are both miscast and the trailer kinds of proves that.
I just cried, it just looks simply beautiful. James Franco is an awesome force as an actor (can play any role) and at times very underrated. He will own this role as Oz from what I can see. Everything looks magical and truly amazing. It took me back to the classic Wizard of Oz, but yet still very original.
By the way, for the people trying to find any flaw in this movie that no one has seen by constantly comparing it to Alice in Wonderland. I would hope smart fans of Oz and Alice don't rise to this silly debate and just wait to enjoy this EPIC movie.

Now, with that numbers on Alice facebook page don't you think it would be stupid to ignore that some found Alice to be great? Plus, the producers of Alice are working on Oz, so who cares as long as Oz makes serious box office money, which from these trailers I'm confident it will do, plus tell a solid background story that we can all just enjoy.
It's funny the constant dig at James Franco by the media and at Alice in Wonderland but guess what I have a feeling everyone making these digs know in their hearts that Oz The Great and Powerful with be a monster hit and even a possible classic.
