Got a Tip?

New Images From Edgar Wright’s ‘The World’s End,’ Simon Pegg Says Pub Names Are Clues To What Happens Inside

nullIt seems that, at least on the big screen, the end of the world just isn't worth it without your friends. Last year we saw a bit of that in "Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World," while the Apatow gang will push that notion further this summer with "This Is The End." And this fall, Edgar Wright will round up the boys for a pint in "The World's End," and some new images are here to give you a sneak peek.

Thus far, we know that the film reunites Wright with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, for a story that starts off as an epic pub crawl only to turn into something far more unexpected, perhaps with zombies and a dance sequence. And while the creative trio are likely to keep the surprises close to the vest until audiences can see it for themselves, Pegg does tell Empire (in the print edition), that there are some clues to be found.

"It's a much bigger proposition than the other two films," he said, comparing the picture to previous collaborations "Shaun Of The Dead" and "Hot Fuzz." "The first part is about the pub crawl. They don't get into any trouble until about pub four, but when it goes wrong, it really goes wrong." He adds: "When you've seen the film you'll be able to relate each pub name to what happens inside."

As you'll recall, the first teaser poster for the film revealed the pub names. Don't expect to get too much out of them, though we're sure The Famous Cock and The Two-Headed Dog will live up to their names in some intriguing ways.

And Pegg also dished on his co-stars and the roles they play in the gang alongside his character Gary: Martin Freeman's Oliver "was welcomed in for having a fit sister"; Paddy Considine's Steven "was Gary's fellow rock star in training"; Nick Frost's Andy is, naturally, "Gary's best friend, and they've known each other the longest" while Eddie Marsan's Peter "hung around with Gary at school because he struggled to fit in elsewhere."

As for Pegg's Gary? He's "the driving comedic force. He's this barely likable guy, he's a tenacious knob-end. He becomes more likable and there's goodness in him, but he's not a hero and you can't really root for him. He's just a dick." And just so you know, the info that's out there thus far is no ruse. "The synopsis is not a smokescreen. It really is about five friends reuniting to try and recreate their pub crawl," Wright said in an interview with IGN that provides one new image below. "That wasn’t a divergent tactic. That really is what the film’s about. But the film’s eight months from coming out so it’s pointless blowing everything now."

"The World's End" will pour you a lager on October 25th.nullnull

  1. I'm excited for this, and I kind of figured the pub names would be clues. They're too evocative and representative of way too much fun potential.

That being said, am I seeing things or does Pegg appear to have some fake scars in that first photo?
