Got a Tip?

Mark Ruffalo Says There Are Currently “No Plans” For A ‘Hulk’ Standalone Movie

nullAfter Joss Whedon‘s response that rumors about a “Hulk” standalone movie were “nonsense,” and other nerd sites declared chatter that a Marvel effort based on Planet Hulk was 1000% inaccurate, Mark Ruffalo has used the almighty power of Twitter to finally weigh in on Hulk-gate. Yeah, don’t hold your breath for a green monster smashing stuff up on screen anytime soon.

“A lot of folks have been asking about the Next Hulk. The next time you see my Hulk it will be in the Avengers2. No plans for stand alone,” he tweeted. “I am not giving up on another stand alone HULK. But it’s not in the works right now. One never knows what the future will bring.”

But you know what? This isn’t entirely a bad thing. Some of us around here at The Playlist believe Hulk worked so well in “The Avengers” because he wasn’t the main presence, making those funny moments shine all the more, while Ruffalo can sell pathos with five seconds of screen time. Do we really want a movie where Hulk is just flinging people left and right like rag dolls? Perhaps the die hards do, but that would become pretty old pretty fast. And perhaps that’s what Marvel realizes. They’ve got a great actor in Ruffalo, so to to CGI him for a big chunk of a movie would be a waste of his talent. Meanwhile, you can’t really have a movie with Hulk just smashing shit all over the place.

However, with the recent “Iron Man 3” trailer making no secret that the Hulkbuster armor will be making an appearance, could that movie be the first step to Hulk eventually fighting his former teammates on The Avengers? That would actually be pretty rad. [via THR]

  1. Well, if a Hulk movie where he "is just flinging people left and right like rag dolls" would "become pretty old, pretty fast", perhaps a Hulk movie could be made where he isn't doing that for two hours?

What do you think? I mean, there was an old TV series with Bill Bixby which was quite good for the first two or three seasons. That's sixty hours or so of good entertainment. There is no reason why a decent screenwriter couldn't make a good movie with the Hulk and Bruce Banner that would hold people's interest.

  2. It's also unneeded, there's already two hulk movies ou there 8 personally thought Edward nortons hulk was a pretty good one, Eric bans is hot but those damn poodles were ridiculous
