Watch: A New, Charming Trailer For Michel Gondry’s ‘Mood Indigo’

To put it quite simply, Michel Gondry‘s upcoming “Mood Indigo” looks like the return to form many fans have been waiting for. While the director has been off pursuing various other challenges in the film world, it’s been a while since we’ve dropped into the sort of cinematic funhouse he’s put up on screen in “Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind,” “The Science Of Sleep” or even “Be Kind Rewind” (underrated in this writer’s opinion). But “Mood Indigo” looks like an utterly charming, whimsical romance, and after a gorgeous first trailer in January, a brand new, equally lovely spot has emerged.

Featuring much more dialogue and an array of new footage along with a bit of stuff we’ve seen before, this trailer once again plays up the romance at the heart of the story, while perhaps keeping the more tragic elements hinted at for now. Based on the beloved novel by Boris Vian, the film tells the tale of Colin (Romain Duris), the wealthy inventor of an olfactory musical instrument. He marries Chloe (Audrey Tautou), but unfortunately she falls ill during their honeymoon thanks to a water lily that enters her lung, and the only way to treat the ailment is to surround her with fresh flowers – an expense that soon drains his funds.

Gad Elmaleh and Omar Sy are among those rounding out the cast, and all told, this looks pretty damned delightful. “Mood Indigo” opens in France on April 24th, but still no distributor or date for North America.
