Got a Tip?

This 9/11 ‘Seinfeld’ Spec Script Is Outrageously Wrong & Incredibly Dark

Seinfeld” didn’t mind pushing cultural and sexual taboos during its day, but the show wisely stayed out of the fray of national tragedies. But what if the series didn’t end in 1997, and what if the writers decided to put Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer in a post-9/11 world? It’s not a question anyone has asked, except one dementedly inspired comic.

Former Onion News Network writer, “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update contributor and comedian Billy Domineau on a lark has penned a spec script (that will obviously never get made, but it’s surely gaining lots of attention) for a “Seinfeld” episode titled “The Twin Towers” that sees the quartet of leads grappling with the fallout of 9/11 in their trademark selfish, and superficial way. Germophobe Jerry now worries about the dust from the buildings covering everything, Elaine has to deal with dating a survivor who talks too animatedly, George takes credit for saving lives, while it turns out that Kramer lent his boxcutter to one of the pilots that flew into the World Trade Center. Yes, this is outrageously wrong stuff, and those plot threads are just the start.

Domineau’s 44-page effort clearly riffs on classic episodes like “The Andrea Doria” and “The Big Salad,” and classic supporting characters like Newman, Uncle Leo, Jackie Chiles, Mr. Wilhelm, and George Steinbrenner all stop by, but it’s obviously much darker.

“I was helping someone write a sketch a few months back and told them theirs needed to be an exercise in bad taste, ‘Like imagine if there was a 9/11 episode of Seinfeld…wait a minute,'” Domineau told The Comic’s Comic about how it all started.

Too soon? It’s definitely not for the easily offended, but for those who want to dive in, read it below. [Splitsider]

  1. While the script was very funny, the formatting was absolutely terrible! The reason for writing a spec is always showing off that you know how to write a script, and this looks like it was written in MS Word or something….
