45 Behind-The-Scenes Photos Of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Reveals Punishing Fight Scene Choreography

nullChristopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" subverted the usual superhero movie expectations, providing an experience rooted in character that still played into the grand myth of Batman. One of the many ways in which Nolan and co. turned things on their head was featuring the grand battle between Batman the villain Bane in the first third of the movie. And then having him lose. While they square off again later in the movie, this is in many ways the piece de resistance and it's not a surprise that getting it right took some work.

A plethora of behind-the-scenes photos and images from that underground, water-soaked battle have landed online, giving fans a pretty great look at the process to create the scene. Certainly, Christian Bale and Tom Hardy were put through the paces for a scene that both establishes Bane as a truly ferocious fighter, and puts a final stamp on Bruce Wayne's decline (before he rises again). It's definitely worth a cup of coffee and quick flip through.

"The Dark Knight Rises" arrives on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital Download from December 3rd in the U.K. and December 4th in the U.S. [Flicks And Bits]

  1. Um, Tristan, the superhero almost always limps away. In any case, never does the protected city get subjected to an environment where the villain holds total dominion over it. That was a bit of a novelty… And, honestly, that you didn\’t come to that conclusion based on what the writer said, I think the movie\’s probably smarter than you are.

  2. It is common knowledge that Nolan doesn't have a second unit on his films so I say continue the circle-jerk! It is hilarious how annoyed people get when someone praises him in anyway.

  3. It's amazing how Nolan is so involved in his films. He doesn't have a second unit — he's right in there in the action, soaking wet, getting dirty. Love it. That's why his films–whether you love 'em or hate 'em–are 100 percent his own.

Man, you guys are really trying hard to find good things to say about that dumb effing movie.

  5. Posting behind-the-scenes stills from a mediocre blockbuster this summer and a deleted scene from a Marvel film that came out over a year ago.

    Great day on The Playlist.
