Got a Tip?

‘300: Battle Of Artemisia’ Gets Blander New Title ‘300: Rise Of An Empire’

nullWhile for some, any decision that pits art against commerce might seem like a vexing one, for studio executives, the bottom line is usually the rule of law. Just yesterday it was revealed that Warner Bros. was strong-arming Guillermo Del Toro into converting his upcoming "Pacific Rim" into 3D, and now another big 2013 movie for the studio is getting a tweak to enhance its bang for the buck.

The "300" sequel, formerly known as "300: Battle Of Artemisia," will now be known as "300: Rise Of An Empire." The thinking behind this one is pretty clear — we'd wager that Joe Flyover State probably doesn't know what the hell an "artemisia" is, and even from a tagline/design perspective, "artemisia" is probably a pain in the ass to use. That said, you can't get much more generic than 'Rise Of An Empire,' which sounds like about fifteen dozen History Channel documentaries we've seen already.

Directed by Noam Murro and starring Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Rodrigo Santoro, Callan Mulvey and Jack O'Connell, empires will rise or something on August 2, 2013. [Deadline]
