Got a Tip?

2019 Best Picture Oscars Predictions

There will be weeks and months to figure out how “A Star is Born” faded in the Best Picture race, but the final showdown features two strong contenders. “Roma” has won almost every critical honor and took a key DGA win and BAFTA. “Green Book” has been controversial to everyone but a significant number of Academy members (and they really, really love it). It also won the PGA which is the only guild award voted on in the same preferential treatment that the Oscars are. In theory, we’d pick “Roma” because “Green Book” is missing out on a Directing nod, but Alfonso Cuaron’s drama is without a key…Editing nod. Moreover, a foreign language film has never won Best Picture in the 90-year history of the Academy. We’re rooting for “The Favourite” or “Black Panther” to upset, but “Roma” has the best shot at overcoming a “Green Book” win. [Updated Feb. 12]

    • You thought it was awful. And you are entitled to your opinion. But that doesn’t change the fact that most people loved it, and it has a fair chance of being nominated. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Three Billboards, but I didn’t go around saying it wouldn’t be nominated, because I could see that it most likely would be. My opinion was never going to affect it’s chances, and neither is your opinion on BP. You’re still entitled to think what you want, but you must also accept that a lot of people think differently.

  1. If a superhero movie finally gets nominated in one of the star categories like Actor / Supporting / Director / Picture, this would be a huge achievement for superhero movies and it would cement Marvel studios’ place in history right up there with the likes of MGM, Paramount, Fox and Universal…not that this is what Marvel is seeking, but it’d still be awesome.
