“Veep” surprised by winning over critically acclaimed sensation “Atlanta” last year, but with the venerable HBO series taking a year off Donald Glover‘s wonder should win this time around, right? Well, maybe. Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is it’s own sort of sensation with 14 nominations overall in its first year. And you can’t discount HBO’s “Barry” which also earned 12 nods in almost every major category. Throw in the fact there are eight nominees overall (Television Academy math making AMPAS math look like 4th grade arithmetic) and the vote could be split all sorts of ways. At this point, it simply may be the one category this year that is too close to call. [Updated July 17]
