2015 Oscar Nominees Get The Honest Poster Treatment

American Sniper Honest Poster HeaderEver since the Oscar nominations were announced last week, what should be a time for celebration in Hollywood has turned into a battle between various controversies, from the "Selma" snubs to the true political motivations (or lack of them) in "American Sniper." So perhaps we could all use a moment of levity, and today it comes from the folks over at The Shiznit

The U.K. site has put together over a dozen "honest posters" for this year’s Oscar nominees, including those in the running for Best Picture, and other popular movies that got nominated. You won’t get a belly laugh, but there these are clever enough to definitely elicit a smirk or chuckle, and given how heated things have become over the last few days, everyone could probably use it. Below, you’ll find our four favorites but be sure to hit the The Shiznit for even more. Did any of these in particular hit the nail on the head? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Great stuff, especially the "American Sniper" poster. A movie about the effect of war on veterans does not have to feature a racist thug as its "hero." Americans are fast to forget they invaded Iraq without cause. The Iraqis were the defenders, not the aggressors.

  2. No, those people, the british I say, make great films, even better than some of the shitty american,
so when you say: "…hey do not create anything original, and parasitically exist on the work of others." do you actually know english culture?

  3. Really – you thought those were the best ones? Kinda liked 2014: A Space Odyssey / TMZ: THE MOVIE and in particular, SELFISH CUNTS — though I guess you can\’t be too un-PC. Though the SELMA poster hit the nail squarely on the head.

  4. I\’ve got one for this article: "Watch Us Try to Win Points for Being Hip and Edgy by Reducing Every Work of Cinematic Art from This Past Year Into A Cynical Punchline (or: We\’re Really Contributing Nothing)"

  5. When I first started reading Indiewire 3 years ago, I thought it was really great, cutting edge articles and info on films and the industry. However, after seeing the never-ending backside kissing of Seth Rogen and James Franco, the ridiculous pseudo-review Oscar campaign for Jennifer Aniston, and now the bashing of American Sniper, I have realized that is no longer the case. This website can be bought just the same as others have been and the SnarkFest is never ending. For the last time, Chris Kyle was a NAVY SEAL. He saved countless lives through his efforts as a sniper, and it was trust (not poor gun control) that took his life. I really wish you and all your colleagues would grasp the concept that because of soldiers like him, you are able to breathe, speak, and live free. Please cut through your bleeding heart, excessively liberal crap and get that through your thick skulls. Soon.

  6. People here are overly critical. This is satire. It is all around us and I don\’t see anyone complaining about it anywhere else. They are taking hits at these films and it is comical. Stop being so cynical.

  7. I\’m not so much concerned about what affiliation the author of this is with but this is just plain insulting to COMEDY. Comedy is supposed to be funny. Judging by the predictable and unimaginative jokes in these posters, I\’m not sure if the author even watched these movies and simply Googled the one-sheets and made a guess about what the movies were about.

  8. mocking others and not create anything original? are you familiar with the word "satire" ? it is an art form… Voltaire, Stephen Colbert, Matt Parker & Trey Stone… just as a few examples.

  9. @No, three of these four films are based on the lives of actual people, and thus aren\’t really original, but exist parasitically off of the lives of others. Just saying.

  10. I hope the Selma poster is being satirical, because calling everyone who dislikes Selma a racist is stupid. It\’s an important and necessary film because of its content, but its execution is lacking. Content isn\’t everything.

  11. Interesting how some people spend so much time mocking others\’ work , yet they do not create anything original, and parasitically exist on the work of others.
