As the tradition goes, Hollywood is waking up bleary-eyed this morning to see if after months of campaigning, handshakes, personal appearances, interviews and more, their efforts will be rewarded with an Oscar nomination. For many actors, directors, screenwriters and more, it will mean being woken up by their excited agents and managers who will share with them the good news. For others, it will mean sleeping in and waking up in a few hours from, realizing they have sadly missed out. And so, with a fresh pot of coffee, we’re here to let you know how this is all shaping up.
It’s another banner year for David O. Russell, with his con flick “American Hustle” scoring 10 nominations, along with blockbuster crossover “Gravity,” while “12 Years a Slave” came in a close second with 9 nominations. And while Harvey Weinstein’s Oscar players all mostly fizzled, rising hotshot producer Megan Ellison scored a staggering 17 nominations across all of her movies.
The Coen Brothers were completely shut out with “Inside Llewyn Davis” only scoring Best Cinematography and Best Sound Mixing nods. A bummer for such a great movie, and a disappointing result for CBS Films who were running with their first real Oscar contender. Among the surprises were nominations for Christian Bale and Sally Hawkins, with the actors branch giving due recognition to some great performances.
Stay tuned for our full breakdown of the snubs and surprises. The statues will handed out to the winners on March 2nd.

you're such a pig!!!
do not be fooled by this bastard, I knew he was just giving a false link,
YOU FEEL SMART, BUT STILL??THE SAME WITH STUPID MONKEY!!!!
Terrific films.
Great site!
I've watched this film for free
Wauw very dissipointing. From all the great black films this year only '12 Years a Slave' got nominated. And this film got less nominations then 'American Husle' (over rated) and 'Gravidy' (great but '12 Years…'was way better). I guess a black filmshould be 10 times as good to be recognized by the Academy. And Sundance film that got passed by the Academy members and Golden Globes. I think there is still something wrong here in Hollywood. Hollywood is run by white people and they will not acknowledge the black film makers as equals. This is a sad day in film. We should all look at our self and change the way we think.
I am sure everyone will agree when I say this film is a very good film,
I liked American Hustle better back when Scorcese directed and named it Goodfellas. Or was it Casino? And BTW, Jennifer Lawrence's high school play imitation of Sharon Stone in Casino clanged like a bell against the subtlety of her more experienced costars.
its pretty much the same 6 or 7 films recycled for the main categories. unimaginative studio nonsense.. Her is one of the "best pictures of the year"? seriously? no mention of Place Beyond the Pines at all? its ridiculous.
LOL @ everyone who thought HER was actually an oscar contender.
Oscar Quiz: How many times have you re-watched Oscar winner "Shakespeare In Love" since 1998?

This American Hustle bashing has gotta go. Do you all really think it is a bad film, or do you just hate it because you see it as too mainstream for some reason or because "normal" people like it? I loved it and face it, sometime the most palpable film wins Best Pic. See Argo from last year. This almost marks the third David O. Russel film in the last four years to land on my top ten list. Was there this much hate for The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook, I can't remember.
Ughh, Philomena for best pic, really?
Congratulations to all the nominees. But do not think it's fair to disparage the work of those who have been appointed. Those on the list deserved and deserve to be there.
@Dale I echo EVERYTHING
Jonah Hill has 2 Oscar nominations. JONAH HILL HAS TWO OSCAR NOMINATIONS. Wtf is wrong with the Academy.
I found 'American Hustle' nothing special. I've seen the majority of the front runners and think it's the weakest 'contender'. I think all David O. Russell films are the same, he just makes the best 'average' films, theirs no distinct style here, I dont think he's a patch on visionaries like Paul Thomas Anderson, The Coens or Scorsese. According to the Academy though, he's the second coming of Kubrick!
The only acting nomination it deserved aswell was Amy Adams. Bradley Cooper was ok, Bale done is best De Niro impression and Jennifer Lawrence was a little girl playing dress up.
inside llewyn davis – screwed
How is everyone calling American Hustle a front runner? Last year Silver Lining Playbook had 8 noms including all four in acting and the other important ones with directing, writing, editing, and picture, and it only won ONE for supporting actress. So this year American Hustle is nomed for the exact same categories only adding to it, costume and production design, and everyone is losing their shit!!! Argo won last year with a lot less noms and stupid ones at that like the two sound categories. I loved American Hustle but it could easily just win only ONE again and of course it would go to Lawrence again. Everyone is crying that 12 Years Slave didnât get a cinematography nom but neither did American Hustle!
This means Roger Deakins will soon be an 11 time Oscar nominee with 0 wins. Crazy. And still can't believe David O Russell has made back to back films that have scored all four acting slots.
lol IMDB has Bruce Dern down for his performance in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom
Bit of a shut out for Saving Mr Banks…
Love the love for American Hustle and Dallas Buyers Club. My two favorite movies of the year!
I'm counting Gravity has 10 not 9 nominations….
Nothing for Inside Llewyn Davis? So I guess the voters didn't bother to see that film…
It's all about marketing.
ATTN: Out of touch Academy members – You should've nominated Alexander Payne for Election and About Schmidt, stahp trying to make up for it by nominating him for his lesser films. Now he just took the nomination Greengrass earned.
