“1923,” the second “Yellowstone” spin-off series after “1883,” finally has a release date. IndieWire reports that the Paramount+ drama with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren has an official premiere date of December 18 on the streaming platform. It’s the latest series in Taylor Sheridan‘s “Yellowstone” TV universe about the Dutton family, who own the largest cattle ranch in Montana.
The new series takes place in the 1920s, as per the show’s title, as Dutton Ranch faces challenges like drought, pandemics, Prohibition, and the beginning of the Great Depression. Beyond Ford and Mirren, “1923” also stars Brandon Sklenar, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, and Mary Shelton. Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Julia Schlaepfer, and Jerome Flynn round out the main cast.
“1923” premieres after the fifth season of “Yellowstone” begins on the Paramount Network on November 13. Another Sheridan show, “Tulsa King,” starring Sylvester Stallone as a mob fixer who relocates to Oklahoma, also premieres the same day on Paramount+. Another “Yellowstone” spin-off, “6666,” is also in development at Paramount Network. However, that show won’t focus on the Dutton family but instead takes place at another ranch in Texas.
“Yellowstone” is the most popular show on cable television by a wide margin. Last year’s Season 4 averaged seven million live viewers, with 9.34 million tuning into the season finale; impressive numbers. Critics meet the show with mixed reviews, however, and this year “Yellowstone” received not a single Emmy nomination despite its popularity.
Not that Taylor Sheridan minds the show’s muted critical reception. He has several other irons in the fire beyond “Yellowstone,” including “Mayor Of Kingstown,” which got renewed for a second season this past February. He also has three other series in development at Paramount+: “Land Man,” “1883: The Bass Reeves Story,” and “Lioness,” a CIA thriller with Nicole Kidman. So, if “Yellowstone” isn’t your thing, maybe one of the numerous other Sheridan projects on deck will speak to you.
Catch “1923” when it premieres on Paramount+ on December 18.
