15 TV Shows To Watch In May: ‘Hacks,’ ‘Obi-Wan,’ ‘The Staircase’ & More

Night Sky
Led by the tremendous duo of Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons, “Night Sky,” created by Holden Miller and Daniel CConnolly (“Into The Badlands”) look to fill the void for those missing some science fiction in their television. The two play married couple Franklin and Irene York who discover a portal in their backyard that leads to a deserted planet. After having guarded this knowledge for years, their lives and the secret are disrupted by the arrival of an enigmatic young man played by Chai Hansen. Adding to the intrigue is director Juan José Campanella who helmed the 2009 film “The Secret in Their Eyes.” 
Release Date: Season one premieres May 20 on Amazon. 

“Now And Then”
A multi-layered thriller that explores the differences between youthful aspirations and the reality of adulthood, “Now And Then” follows a group of college friends whose lives are changed forever when one of them ends up dead after a celebratory weekend. The show stars Marin Fajardo, Gala Bichir, Mateo Guerrero, Jimmy Shar, and Ella Kweku, as well as Academy Award nominees Marina de Tavira and Rosie Perez.
Premiere Date: May 20 on Apple TV+.

Stranger Things
Only six months have passed for the characters of “Stranger Things” since the cataclysmic events of the season three finale dubbed the “Battle of Starcourt,” but it’s been nearly three years since we’ve last checked in with the show, production having been stopped by COVID. The group, now separated, will have to deal with more terror in Hawkins as greater and more horrifying supernatural threats surface. Millie Bobby BrownWinona RyderDavid Harbour, and Finn Wolfhard along with the rest of the series regulars return to the Duffer Brothers-helmed series. After such a long wait the anticipation is high to reunite with these characters and the world they’ve created as the stakes continue to rise. Part one will air at the end of the month with the back half of episodes released in July. 
Release Date: Season four premieres May 27 on Netflix.

Obi-Wan Kenobi” 
While the “Star Wars” canon might not have fans’ total attention at the theaters these days since the ending of the new trilogy, the saga has continued to thrive on television through Disney+. “Obi-Wan” has the bonus of showcasing the anticipated return of Ewan McGregor as the Jedi Master. The series will follow the character as he deals with and processes the consequences of the corruption of Anakin Skywalker, his one-time friend and apprentice. Hayden Christiansen will also be reprising his role, getting to sink his teeth further into the Darth Vader persona. Rupert FriendJoel Edgerton, and Bonnie Piesse also star with Deborah Chow directing. 
Release Date: Season one premieres May 27 on Disney+.

Pistol
Danny Boyle returns to television with FX’s Pistol,” a drama series created by Craig Pearce. Boyle directs the series which follows Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones and the band’s rise to fame and notoriety. Led by “Babyteeth” star Toby Wallace, the series also stars Anson BoonJacob SlaterLouis Partridge, and “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams. The series is based on Jones’ memoir, “Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol.” 
Release Date: The series premieres May 31 on FX on Hulu.
