disobedience-april-movieDisobedience
Cast: Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz, Alessandro Nivola
Synopsis: A woman returns to the community that shunned her for her attraction to a childhood friend. Once back, their passions reignite as they explore the boundaries of faith and sexuality.
What You Need To Know:  Sebastián Lelio, The director that has brought us “Gloria” and the Oscar-winning “A Fantastic Woman” returns with yet another immersive character study. Lelio continues to tackle subjects and characters that aren’t often given their due on the big screen (or many other storytelling platforms) and this time around he follows to women who are fighting their sexuality and they’re immersed in their disapproving community. Stars Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz are given roles worthy of their skill sets (and it’s particularly nice to see the former given such a meaty role). Penned by both Lelio and “Ida” scribe Rebecca Lenkiewicz (who handled sexuality gracefully there), our critic said that Lelio “…crafts a drama that’s both sensual and spiritual, deeply moving and tender.”

“Avengers: Infinity War”
Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Tom Holland
Synopsis: The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.
What You Need To Know: In an idea” l world, we’d know nothing going into “Avengers: Infinity War.” For the first time since the run of this series began with “Iron Man” in 2008, the stakes, due to the pivotal nature of the film and the merging of characters and the baddie himself, Thanos, feel real. The creative minds behind the film continue to stress that some of our favorites may not make it out of the film in one piece and, rather than brush it off as white noise as usual (everyone has nine lives in these films) the warning seems real. There’s a lot of ground to cover in this crossover event, a lot of characters who need to get their due and set up for the fourth, untitled “Avengers” picture needed so the possibility of failure is tremendous. With the Russo Brothers back at the helm following their success with “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Civil War,” we’re not ready to distrust them yet, but there’s more of a “make or break” atmosphere compared to usual.
