Got a Tip?

10 TV Shows To Watch In June

Cloak & Dagger
Synopsis: Two teenagers from very different backgrounds find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love.
What You Need To Know: It’s easy to try and shrug off the premiere of Freeform’s “Cloak and Dagger” – it’s yet another superhero series and a Marvel one at that. It could be argued that the last really impressive Marvel series was “Agent Carter,” but that had a recognizable and charismatic lead to anchor the series. What makes “Cloak and Dagger” so alluring is the talent behind the camera, specifically, with Gina Prince-Bythewood directing the first episode. With the series seemingly placing most of its focus into the romance of the two leads rather than a step by step retelling of the superhero origin story, there’s hope that it may come to be more than the sum of its parts.
Release Date: June 7 on Freeform

Dietland
Synopsis: A ghostwriter for the editor of one of New York’s hottest fashion magazines sets out on a wildly complicated road to self-acceptance, while everyone is buzzing over the news about men accused of sexual abuse and assault meeting untimely, violent ends.
Network: AMC
What You Need To Know: The latest series from “UnREAL” creator Martin Noxon, “Dietland” also showcases the return of Julianna Margulies to series regular status. With a synopsis that seems poised to be released amid the ongoing #MeToo movement in Hollywood and elsewhere, it will be interesting to see just how far the show is willing to reach into controversial and troubling territory when it seemingly reflects real life in a described “darkly comedic” way.
Release Date: June on AMC

American Woman
Synopsis: A newly single mother struggles to raise her daughters in the 1970s.
What You Need To Know:Based on the childhood of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Kyle Richards, Alicia Silverstone (“Clueless”) plays Bonnie Nolan, a Beverly Hills wife, who after learning her husband (James Tupper) has been cheating on her, goes the unexpected route for the 1975 and leaves him.  Alongside her best friends Kathleen (Mena Suvari) and Diana (Jennifer Bartels), Bonnie learns to balance raising her daughters, discovering the Seventies culture of swinging, flower power, and second wave feminism, and becoming independent in a time that still valued women staying in the domestic sphere.
Release Date: June 7 on Paramount Network

Sense8
Synopsis: A group of psychically linked people around the globe must survive being hunted by a mysterious organization that sees them as a threat to the world.
What You Need To Know: Well, Netflix learned the hard lesson of what happens when you cancel a series with a devoted fanbase – they come after you.  After “Sense8’s” sudden cancellation last June, the fans revolted and barely a month later, Netflix announced that a two-hour series finale would be produced to provide closure. While in a perfect world “Sense8” would be entering its third season, it is a relief to know the groundbreaking Wachowski Sisters’ series will have a proper ending, and that we will see the cluster (Brian J. Smith, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Toby Onwumere, Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middleton) rescue Wolfgang (Max Riemelt) and bring down the nefarious BPO.
Release Date: June 8 on Netflix
