Got a Tip?

10 Things We’d Like To See At This Year’s Emmy Awards

6. “Stranger Things” Walk Away With an Emmy or Two
It may be a bit of an underdog in some viewers eyes, but there is no denying “Stranger Things” struck a chord with many in the Television Academy given some of the nominations the show received. Millie Bobby Brown has the potential to be the youngest Emmy winner in history. Will she take the trophy? It’s a bit unlikely given the nominees she shares the category with. Still we can hope to see “Stranger Things” leave with a few Emmys before the nights end.

7. Donald Glover Adds More Trophies to His (Growing) Collection
If you don’t know Donald Glover by now, you should get used to hearing his name. With two Golden Globe Awards and a Critics Choice Award for his work in front of and behind the camera of “Atlanta” it is more than likely we will be seeing Glover winning for at least one of the nominations the show has received. Young and multi-talented, Glover is receiving his first nominations for the lauded series. They won’t be his last, and we will definitely see more in the future. But as for this years’ Emmys, we won’t be surprised to see him win one of his four nominations.

8. John Lithgow Earns His Sixth Emmy
The last Emmy John Lithgow took home was for his guest star appearance on “Dexter.” Seven years later with 12 nominations under his belt, could he make it an even half? His performance as Winston Churchill has earned him a Screen Actor’s Guild Award and a Golden Globe nomination. As he won’t be returning for season two, it may be possible that his performance as the powerful Prime Minister could earn him his sixth Emmy win. One that we would not be upset to see happen.

The Crown

9. “SNL” Dominates
Whether you love it or hate it, “SNL” has been everywhere this year. And as it leads in nominations with “Westworld” it is sure to take home more than a few awards. Already, Melissa McCarthy snagged the Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Emmy for her performance as former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. There is no doubt with three cast members taking up half the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category, that one of the women (Kate McKinnon the likeliest of the group) walking away with some hardware.

10. “The Handmaid’s Tale” Wins Best Drama
With HBO heavyweight “Game of Thrones” out of the running for this year’s highest achievement, a slew of newcomers are nominated in the Best Drama category. Five of the seven shows nominated are in their first season, with veteran nominees “Better Call Saul” and “House of Cards” landing nominations in the category from previous years. Unfortunately for the teams behind “Better Call Saul” and “House of Cards” this year will come down to the new comers. “Stranger Things” reignited nostalgia, “Westworld” took a daring premise and made it nearly perfect, and “The Handmaid’s Tale”  came out at the right time. The Emmy could go to any of these three very worthy shows, but knowing Hollywood is veering towards the progressive, it would be hard to see a show as striking and political cognizant as “The Handmaid’s Tale” not walking away with the Emmy.
